FREMANTLE'S wretched run with injury has continued, with midfielder Brianna Green rupturing her ACL at training on Thursday.

The club confirmed the injury on Monday night. It's Green's second major injury in the space of two years after the 21-year-old broke her collarbone almost exactly a year ago, in round two of the inaugural season of the NAB AFL Women's competition.

AFLW wrap: Serious injuries hit star players

In better news, defender Tayla Bresland is expected to return to training from a lateral ligament strain in her right knee later this week.

She suffered the injury in the Dockers' practice match against Adelaide on 20 January.

As well as Green and Bresland, Fremantle has another four players on the sidelines – Kirby Bentley (knee reconstruction), Kiara Bowers (in the final stages of recovery from a knee reconstruction), Beatrice Devlyn (broken finger) and Kellie Gibson (hip flexor).

Bentley's injury occurred in the off-season, meaning the club was able to sign an additional player (Tayla McAuliffe) as injury cover.

The extensive list means Fremantle has just 24 players to choose from for its match against Melbourne on Sunday, after forward Stacey Barr was on Monday offered a one-match suspension (with an early guilty plea) for striking.
