LEVI Casboult's season is over, with the Carlton forward suspended in the VFL for a dangerous tackle that saw his opponent slung into a goalpost.

Casboult was offered a one-game ban after the incident was assessed as careless conduct with medium impact to the head, and he accepted the sanction.

Despite occurring in the VFL, the suspension has made Casboult ineligible for selection ahead of Carlton's final AFL game for the year against Adelaide on Saturday night.

With the club's reserves team also no chance of making the VFL finals with just one match remaining in its season, accepting the ban has ended his season.

The incident occurred in the first quarter of the Northern Blues' 34-point victory over Sandringham on Saturday, with Casboult hurling young St Kilda defender Brandon White against the right goalpost from close range.

Despite the tackle's dangerous nature, Casboult received a holding-the-ball free kick.

The suspension closes a torrid season for the big Blues forward, who has managed just 10 AFL games and 12 goals for the year due to a series of form and fitness issues.

Having missed five weeks with broken ribs earlier in the year, Casboult kicked just one goal from three matches on returning to the team and was subsequently dropped to the VFL.

The young key forward trio of Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay and Tom De Koning has since been preferred to the 28-year-old.

As a result, Casboult has spent the last four matches with the Northern Blues, playing as a lone ruckman over the last fortnight.

He had pushed to reclaim his place in the side with an impressive performance against Sandringham, kicking two goals to go with 13 disposals, six marks and 28 hit-outs.
