WEST Coast's twin towers in attack loom as preliminary final trump cards against Melbourne, but spearhead Josh Kennedy has played down the Eagles' perfect 11-0 record with him and sidekick Jack Darling in the same side.

Instead, the dual Coleman medallist believes West Coast's dangerous smalls will also play a pivotal role in Saturday afternoon's Optus Stadium blockbuster.

The Eagles went down to the Demons by 17 points when the teams met at Optus Stadium in round 22, after going into the contest without Kennedy (shin) and losing Darling to concussion inside 10 minutes.

West Coast will field its first-choice attack for only the second time all season against the Demons, who are the AFL's most potent scoring side, and have a variety of goalkicking avenues with first-year goalsneaks Willie Rioli and Liam Ryan adding plenty of spark.

"Having all your forwards in the team is pretty beneficial," Kennedy said.

"I don't really look into them (stats) too much, but it's good to have Jack. He's been in good form this year and taken his game to another level.

"His contested marking and his ability overhead, and I think his smarts around the game, everything has come together.

"He's a really important player for our side and it's just been great to see him get a lot of reward.

"Some of the stuff that Willie does around the ball is extraordinary. You see it at training and he's just a bit of a freak.

"The way Liam has come about with the way he plays his footy, he's got so much excitement.

"It's just been fantastic to see him come through."

Kennedy and Darling have combined for 80 goals this season and were match-winners in the qualifying final, booting two goals each while terrorising Collingwood's defence in a frantic fourth quarter.

Kennedy, who finished with 2.4, pulled up sore from his first game in seven weeks but hopes he has shaken off rust after spilling several marks in a nightmare first half.

"In your head, you feel pretty good, but the body just wasn’t keeping up with the pace of it," he said.

"I was pretty rusty early, missed a few shots and was in all sorts.
"But towards the end I was lucky enough to get a couple of clunks and it was just great to get the win and put ourselves into a prelim."

The Demons powered to their 15th triple-figure score against Hawthorn on Saturday and worried the Eagles with their chaos gamestyle in round 22.

Simon Goodwin's outfit was only the second team – and first since Sydney in round one – to top the century against West Coast this year, and Kennedy was wary of getting into a shootout.

"We'll see what the game presents, obviously shootouts, there's a fair bit of risk and a fair bit of luck in them," he said.

"The Dees know how to score, they move the ball pretty quick, and we're probably a bit of a supply team as well.

"I think all finals are based on how long you can keep the ball in your forward half.

"It's a hard thing to do against Melbourne, because they rebound real quick and it's up the other end.

"For us as a forward line group if we're not marking it, we just want to make sure we're locking it in there."

The Eagles trained at Optus Stadium on Monday morning, and are only expected to make one change for the preliminary final, with veteran backman Will Schofield set to replace Brad Sheppard (hamstring).
