A FOOTY rivalry is spilling from the playing field onto the television arena, with two former stars set to duke it out on competing lifestyle shows.

Coleman medallist Brian Taylor and Western Bulldogs champ Luke Darcy are both turning their hands to family-friendly productions on Channel Seven, as the race to become the network's most sought-after host heats up.

Taylor is set to helm The Great Weekend while Darcy joins the cast of House of Wellness.

On the latest episode of the Sounding Board podcast, AFL.com.au's chief football correspondent Damian Barrett quipped an idyllic weekend for Taylor would fail to appeal with the station's target audience.

"This is Brian's great weekend – go and grab a rifle, which you're legally allowed to have, and shoot things that move. That would be Brian's great weekend, so let's see the real Brian", Barrett said.

Co-host Craig Hutchison said the duo needed to shed their hard-nosed footy images to make their audacious projects successful.

"The next stage of your credibility is just to get a bit warm, to get some cardigan-style warmth about you," he said.
