CHRIS Masten's interrupted summer has continued with the West Coast premiership wingman ruled out of Friday's intraclub due to a calf worry.

The Eagles say Masten suffered a corked calf during a light training run at Subiaco Oval on Thursday morning.

The hard-running veteran jogged laps alongside Hamish Brayshaw before the session began, but was soon spotted sporting a bandage covering his shin.

He remained on the track for the entire session but was restricted to short kicking from the goalsquare before heading indoors.

Masten, who turns 30 in May, has battled minor hamstring and adductor complaints this pre-season, but has been building towards the JLT Community Series.

The Eagles are set to have several big names missing from their intraclub and will use top-up players from their new WAFL side to fill teams.

West Coast's players split into squads of about 17 each during warm-up on Thursday before coming together for skills work.

Sore-looking Norm Smith medallist Luke Shuey appears unlikely for the intraclub after again being limited to an individual running program.

Jeremy McGovern (ribs) is also doubtful after working one-on-one with youngster Brayden Ainsworth, who is back marking the ball with both hands after finger surgery.

Star spearhead Josh Kennedy (legs/shoulder) and Jamie Cripps (toe) took encouraging steps forward in their rehab on Thursday, completing half-laps around the boundary at about three-quarter pace.

Kennedy is aiming to be available for the round-one trip to Brisbane, while pressure forward Cripps – the AFL's leading inside 50 tackler last season – is expected to miss multiple rounds.

Mobile tall forward Jake Waterman is pushing for a spot to replace Cripps or retired champion Mark LeCras in the season-opener and was back with the main group on Thursday after overcoming a minor ankle setback.

Franchise ruckman Nic Naitanui was involved throughout and stayed on the oval to complete his own ACL rehab program – including jumping over hurdles – after his teammates left, with draftee Xavier O'Neill (knee) also ramping up his running load.
