AFL.COM.AU trailblazer Nat Edwards is set to make history as the first woman to lead host primetime free-to-air AFL coverage.

Edwards, who will remain host of AFL.com.au's flagship news show Footy Feed, will make her debut on Channel Seven's The Kick at 6.30pm AEDT on the Saturday of round one ahead of the Western Bulldogs-Sydney clash at Marvel Stadium.

The 32-year-old has established her credentials as one of the football industry's most prominent female voices, covering breaking news for Australia's number one sports website as well as acting as master of ceremonies at a number of finals games and other major events.

Edwards will be joined on The Kick panel by Hawthorn premiership star Campbell Brown, Richmond champion Matthew Richardson and a rotating cast of current day AFL players.

Seven news and sports presenter Jacqui Felgate will take charge of Footy Central updates, while Fox FM DJ Byron Cooke rounds out the new-look team reporting from around the stadium.

It marks a major revamp of the network's Saturday night pre-game show, allowing the James Brayshaw, Luke Darcy led commentary team to focus on their call of the match.

Edwards, who's been part of Seven's Game Day for several years, will also have an expanded role on the Sunday morning show alongside host Hamish McLachlan.
