A DECISION on the start time for this season's Toyota AFL Grand Final is expected to be known within hours.

Club presidents, coaches and the League's Commission have descended on Marvel Stadium for a series of meetings ahead of Thursday night's season launch.

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire made no secret of his desire for a twilight decider.

"If you want to be the number-one rating show in Australia, you've got to be on in prime time," McGuire said when he arrived at League headquarters. 

"It's a no brainer to me, the sooner we do it the better.'

Earlier on Thursday the AFL's coaches met at Marvel Stadium, but all remained tight lipped as they exited the talks.

It was the first-time football operations boss Steve Hocking came face-to-face with coaches, after calls from some to lift the tight new restrictions on runners.

It's also the first meeting of club bosses with League officials after the explosive revelation from AFLPA chief Paul Marsh about the controversial illicit drugs policy on AFL.com.au podcast 'In The Game with Damian Barrett'.
