WAYNE Carey or Lance Franklin, who would you choose?

Sydney coach John Longmire has had the privilege of seeing both superstars up close, first as one half of one of the game’s most fearsome forward combinations with Carey at North Melbourne in the 1990s, then as Franklin’s coach since 2014.

The combination of Longmire at full-forward and Carey at centre-half forward terrified defences and helped build North Melbourne into one of the powerhouses of the competition throughout the 90s.

The pair kicked 768 goals in the six seasons between 1990 and 1995, 464 coming off Longmire’s boot.

Under Longmire’s coaching, Franklin has booted 338 goals, won the Coleman Medal twice and been awarded four All Australian jumpers, including the captaincy in 2018.

On this week’s In the Game with Damian Barrett, Longmire makes his call on who he’d select first if given the choice.

Plus, he details a life in footy dating back to playing in the famously bloody Battle of Britain as a 16-year-old to winning the Coleman Medal aged 19 to the frustrating and premature end of his playing career and how he became a premiership coach at the Swans.
