ANDREW Gaff has brushed off the post-Western Derby storm created after Lauren Pavlich questioned why West Coast supporters applauded his every possession during Saturday night's grinding win over Fremantle.

Mrs Pavlich, the wife of retired Dockers legend Matthew, made front-page headlines when she spoke out about Eagles' fans support for Gaff.

In his first home game since his eight-game ban for striking Dockers youngster Andrew Brayshaw, Gaff received cheers for each of his 35 disposals, drowning out boos from some small pockets of Freo fans.

THINGS WE LEARNED Tigers still have the AFL's best backman

"Why was Andrew Gaff being clapped with every possession? He punched someone in the head and broke their jaw ...?? Are they condoning this behaviour??" she wrote on Twitter.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Gaff wasn't fazed by Mrs Pavlich's tweet or crowd responses, positive or negative, following last year's incident.

"It is what it is. People can say what they like. I don't read, listen or watch too much stuff these days," Gaff said.

"I got booed last week (against Collingwood at the MCG) and got cheered by my own fans this week.

"People can do and say what they like, but it doesn't really impact how I go about my football.

"I don't lose any sleep over that."

BARRETT'S MARGIN CALL Superstar Cat plays a dangerous game

Gaff appreciated the support from the vast majority of the record derby crowd of 58,219 fans and hoped Eagles supporters don't boo premiership ruckman Scott Lycett when he returns to the west in a Port Adelaide jumper on Good Friday.

"He's a premiership player in our success last year, and without him who knows what would have happened," Gaff said.

"He had a great finals series playing really well against Max Gawn and obviously Brodie Grundy in a Grand Final.

"I think it worked as well as it could have for Scotty leaving the club on that note and he's made Port a much better team with him and (Paddy) Ryder being able to share the responsibility in the ruck.

"It's probably going to be a tough one for Scotty playing here for so many years and knowing all the boys really well."

The Eagles recruited Tom Hickey from St Kilda after Lycett accepted the Power's free agency pitch, and his pairing with Nathan Vardy has shown encouraging signs with Nic Naitanui still working his way back from a second knee reconstruction.

Hickey has booted two goals and averaged 11.3 possessions and 17 hitouts, shading Vardy, who has gone goalless and averaged only 6.8 disposals and 14.5 hitouts in the opening month.

"They've been really good, Hick especially played really well against Collingwood," Gaff said.

"The good thing about them is they're able to go forward and hit the scoreboard.

"What we saw on the weekend was them able to come out the front (of centre clearances), kick it long and give our forwards the best chance."

WHO MAKES FINALS? Do the 2019 Ladder Predictor

Gaff was speaking at Optus Stadium on Monday to promote the Meals for Metres program which will again see AGL donate 500 meals to Foodbank WA for every kilometre he runs this season.

"It's great that we supplied over 57,000 meals last year and looking forward to hopefully bettering that this year," Gaff said.

"At three-quarter time when games are on the line it's going to give me extra motivation knowing I'm going to be helping those in need."
