AFL Statement

The AFL advises the Match Review of the remaining games from Saturday and Sunday of Round Eight have now been completed. The following charges have been laid with three other incidents requiring further explanation.

 
Charges Laid:
Sam Walsh, Carlton
, has been charged with Misconduct against Jordan De Goey, Collingwood during the first quarter of the Round Eight match between Carlton and Collingwood, played at the MCG on Saturday May 11.

In summary he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Misconduct (Pushing player into the path of an Umpire). The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction as a first offence. The player can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Jeremy McGovern, West Coast Eagles has been charged with engaging in Rough Conduct against Blake Acres, St Kilda during the first quarter of the Round Eight match between St Kilda and the West Coast Eagles, played at Marvel Stadium on Saturday May 11.

In summary he can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Intentional Conduct with Low Impact and Body Contact. The incident was classified as a $3000 sanction as a first offence. The player can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Sam Durdin, North Melbourne has been charged with engaging in Rough Conduct against Gary Rohan, Geelong Cats during the third quarter of the Round Eight match between North Melbourne and the Geelong Cats, played at Marvel Stadium on Saturday May 11.

In summary he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Careless Conduct with Medium Impact and High Contact. The incident was classified as a one-match sanction.

James Frawley, Hawthorn has been charged with engaging in Rough Conduct against Jeremy Cameron, GWS GIANTS during the first quarter of the Round Eight match between Hawthorn and the GWS GIANTS, played at the MCG on Sunday May 12.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Careless Conduct with Low Impact and Body Contact. The incident was classified as a $3000 sanction as a first offence. The player can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Incidents assessed:

Contact between Geelong's Gary Ablett and North Melbourne's Sam Wright in the second quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. Wright has the ball at half back for North Melbourne. He handballs to his teammate and high contact is made by Ablett. It was the view of the MRO that while this was an intentional striking action, there was insufficient force to constitute a reportable offence. No further was taken.

Contact between North Melbourne's Taylor Garner and Geelong's Tom Stewart in the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The ball is loose after a marking contest. Garner and Stewart approach the ball from opposite directions. Stewart takes possession of the ball and a clash of heads occurs. It was the view of the MRO that Garner’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.

Contact between Fremantle's Nat Fyfe and Richmond's Tom Lynch in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The ball is loose on the wing. Lynch and Fyfe approach the ball from opposite directions. Lynch taps the ball forward to a teammate. Fyfe makes high contact to Lynch. It was the view of the MRO there was insufficient force to constitute a reportable offence. No further was taken.
