AFL Statement

THE AFL advises the Match Review from the matches on Saturday and Sunday of Round 12 has now been completed. The following charges have been laid.

Charges Laid:

Paul Seedsman, Adelaide Crows, has been charged with Misconduct (Kneeing) against Nick Haynes, GWS GIANTS during the third quarter of the Round 12 match between the Adelaide Crows and the GWS GIANTS, played at Adelaide Oval on Saturday June 8.

In summary he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Misconduct (Kneeing). The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction as a first offence. The player can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Willie Rioli, West Coast Eagles has been charged with engaging in Rough Conduct (DangerousTackle) against Colin O’Riordan, Sydney Swans during the second quarter of the Round 12 match between the Sydney Swans and the West Coast Eagles, played at the SCG on Sunday June 9.

Incidents Assessed:

Contact between Gold Coast SUNS' Touk Miller and North Melbourne’s Shaun Higgins in the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Higgins has the ball at half back for North Melbourne, where he is pursued by Miller. Miller tackles Higgins to ground. It was the view of the MRO that Miller’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.

The match day report laid against Gold Coast SUNS' Jack Martin for contact on North Melbourne’s Jack Ziebell from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The ball is loose on the wing. Ziebell and Martin approach the ball from opposing directions. Martin attempts to take possession of the ball, and in the process makes front-on contact to Ziebell. It was the view of the MRO that Martin was contesting the ball and had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

Sanction Accepted:

Jacob Townsend, Richmond, has accepted a $1500 sanction for Striking (Fixed Financial Sanction) Jordan Clark, Geelong Cats during the third quarter of the Round 12 match between Richmond and the Geelong Cats, played at the MCG on Friday June 7.
