The Melbourne Football Club is the founding club of the AFL. We are seeking an enthusiastic AFLW Head Physiotherapist to join our team based at AAMI Park. The successful applicant will oversee the Physiotherapy services for Melbourne AFLW program. You will be responsible for injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention as well as assisting with development of programs to improve physical performance.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Assessment and management of injured AFLW players
  • Working with the medical and Strength and Conditioning team to deliver optimal management of players
  • Developing screening protocols and individualised and group injury prevention programs
  • Development of rehabilitation programs for injured AFLW athletes and assisting in implementing these programs in combination with the strength and conditioning team
  • Supervision and execution of rehabilitation programs on field and in the gym setting
  • Preparation of players for all training and games
  • Attend all matches as Head Physiotherapist for the AFLW team
  • Attending all medical and rehabilitation meetings
  • Communication of injury information to coaching staff in conjunction with Team Doctor and High Performance Manager.
  • Liaising with Team Doctor and Player Development manager in regards to player wellbeing
  • Management of AFLW physiotherapy department and mentoring of Assistant Physiotherapist and Intern.
  • Keep accurate and timely clinical records that are in accordance with club policies
  • Maintain appropriate professional conduct especially in the areas of ethics, confidentiality and interdisciplinary respect

Contact requirements:
Season (November - April):

  • Pre season - 2 x week evening training sessions + 1 x Saturday morning training session
  • In Season - 2 x week evening training sessions + Weekend match day cover
  • Administrative time pre/post training
  • Interstate travel as required with team

AFLW Offseason (April - October)

Total 10hrs to provide physiotherapy services to listed club players. Is inclusive of 1 x weekly AFLW training session (AAMI park)

  • VFLW match cover in circumstances where VFLW physiotherapist unavailable
  • o Flexible hours to provide physiotherapy cover to injured girls at suitable times of availability

The successful applicant will require:

  • Some flexibility within their working schedule to accommodate the schedule of the AFLW team
  • Ability to travel to trainings (AAMI park and occasionally Casey Fields) as well as games
  • Ability to travel interstate with the team as required

Competencies, Qualifications, Experience and Key Attributes

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Masters of Sports Physiotherapy desirable
  • Registered Physiotherapist
  • Experience in the area of sports physiotherapy preferably within the sport of AFL
  • Experience developing and delivering rehabilitation programs
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Working with Children Card
