The Melbourne Football Club is the founding club of the AFL. We are seeking an enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our team based at AAMI Park. The successful applicant will provide high level Physiotherapy services for Melbourne AFLW and Casey Demons VFLW players and work within the physiotherapy team.

AFLW Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Assessment and management of injured AFLW team players under the direction of the AFLW Head physiotherapist over the AFLW season
  • Coordination of rehabilitation programs for injured AFLW athletes. This includes assisting in the development of rehabilitation programs for injured players and then implementing these programs in combination with the strength and conditioning team
  • Supervision and execution of rehabilitation programs on field and in the gym setting
  • Preparation of players for training and games
  • Attend all matches as assistant physiotherapist for the AFLW team
  • Keep accurate and timely clinical records that are in accordance with club policies
  • Maintain appropriate professional conduct especially in the areas of ethics, confidentiality and interdisciplinary respect

VFLW Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Assessment and management of injured VFLW team players working with medical and strength and conditioning teams to ensure optimal management of player injuries
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation programs for injured players and execute these programs in combination with the strength and conditioning team
  • Preparation of players for training and games
  • Attend all matches as the head physiotherapist for VFLW team and training as coordinated with the AFLW High Performance Manager.
  • Keep accurate and timely clinical records that are in accordance with club policies
  • Maintain appropriate professional conduct especially in the areas of ethics, confidentiality and interdisciplinary respect
  • Reports to VFL Football operations manager and AFLW Head Physiotherapist

Contact requirements: Contract for period November 2019 to October 2020.

AFLW component (November - April):

  • Pre season - 2 x week evening training sessions + 1 x Saturday morning training session
  • In Season - 2 x week evening training sessions + Weekend match day cover

VFLW Component (December - October):

  • Pre-season: 1 x week evening training session (Casey Fields)
  • In season: 2 x week evening training sessions + 1 x weekend match day cover
  • Some flexibility to share sessions with Head VFL, Head AFLW or Intern physiotherapists as required

The successful applicant will have:

  • Flexibility within their working schedule to accommodate the schedule of the AFLW and VFLW teams
  • Ability to travel to training (AAMI park and Casey Fields) as well as games
  • Ability to potentially travel interstate with the team as required

Competencies, Qualifications, Experience and Key Attributes

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Registered Physiotherapist
  • Experience in the area of sports physiotherapy preferably within the sport of AFL
  • Experience developing and delivering rehabilitation programs
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Working with Children Certificate
