CARLTON has decided not to offer a new contract to mid-season recruit Josh Deluca.

However, the 23-year-old will continue to train with the Blues when the club's pre-season campaign starts in November to press his claims for another opportunity.

Deluca, who played four games with Fremantle in 2017, had been an impressive performer for Subiaco in the WAFL when he was selected by Carlton with the No.1 pick in the first NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

The left-footed midfielder broke into the Blues line-up for the round 18 clash with Gold Coast and made six successive appearances, averaging 12 possessions and four tackles and tallying four goals.

"Josh is a quality person who has given his all since coming through the doors of Ikon Park," Carlton football chief Brad Lloyd said.

"He has taken up the opportunity to train with the club during pre-season and we will provide him with all the support he needs to continue his playing career."

The news comes after the Blues had previously delisted Jarrod Garlett, Matthew Lobbe, Patrick Kerr, Angus Schumacher and Kym LeBois, while former Magpies Dale Thomas and Alex Fasolo have retired.
