GEELONG would like to add to its talls department with its early picks at this year's NAB AFL Draft, but may have to shuffle up the board to make it happen.

The Cats are set to use four picks at this year's national draft – selections No.14, 17, 24 and 36.

But those picks could change, with clubs allowed to trade selections up until November 22, and then again during the draft on November 27-28.

List manager Stephen Wells told this week's Road to the Draft podcast, brought to you by Hostplus, that the club wasn't settled on where it would start choosing, with their picks possibly changing hands.

"It's some chance (of trading up), the conversations are going on with other clubs," Wells said.

"We're working through a whole lot of scenarios in here as well with three weeks to go until the first night of the draft. It's realistic. Likely to [happen]? Probably not likely to."

The Cats will be on the lookout for key-position players and rucks at the draft, but with ruck Luke Jackson and versatile defender Fischer McAsey likely to be off the board by their first pick, Wells said the club wouldn't be pushed into taking a 'type'.

"We've got good young developing players all over the ground," Wells said.

"When we look at the list, I suppose Tom Hawkins as a massive key-position player is what I find the hardest to replace and I'm not sure that's going to happen in this year's draft either.

"The key-position forwards and the ruckmen are very, very difficult to find. We'll be having a look at any of those that come our way and make a decision.

"[We're] not necessarily prioritising it but certainly if we think it's the right decision for our club, they’re the two positions that I reckon are hardest to find at the draft."

The Cats’ tall stocks have taken a hit in the off-season. Last week they delisted key defender Lachie Henderson, and they have also cut Wylie Buzza (now at Port Adelaide) and Ryan Abbott (who they have committed to selecting in the rookie draft), as well as trading Zac Smith back to Gold Coast.

Key back Josh Worrell, flying wingman Miles Bergman, small forward Cody Weightman and half-back Will Day are all in contention for the Cats' first-round picks.
