LUKE Hodge will return to Brisbane in 2020, with the retired great set to re-join the club where he finished his playing career as its new mentoring coach.

Hodge will take the role on a part-time basis from next season, having officially announced he was retiring from his storied playing career at the end of last season.

The four-time premiership player will 'offer leadership advice, mentor the young and emerging players and assist with craft work' in his new position with the Lions.

It follows a hugely successful 346-game playing career with both Hawthorn and Brisbane, with his final 41 matches played in Lions colours over the past two seasons.

"My family and I have loved our time in Brisbane and are looking forward to staying here next year," Hodge told the club's website.
