The Bombers have one spot open on their list and can pick up a player through the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP), or leave it for the mid-season draft in 2020.

And Lockyear, a 190cm forward who has shot into the sights of clubs this season, is on the Bombers' radar as the club searches for its next recruit.

The high-leaping swingman can play in attack and defence, and has been working on improving his endurance.

He was invited to test at the NAB AFL State Draft Combine, having previously represented the Northern Territory in basketball. He was recruited to the NT Thunder from Rovers in the Central Australian Football League.

An ankle injury has meant he has been unable to train with the Bombers' squad this week.

Essendon earlier this month signed premiership Richmond forward Jacob Townsend via the SSP.

The Bombers selected Lachie Johnson with their last pick at the draft last month but can place him on the inactive long-term injury list and fill his spot.
