Demons captain Max Gawn stood tall in a forgettable round for Fantasy coaches. Picture: AFL Photos

WELL, what can I say about that round … other than to be the butter mouse.

There were injuries and under-performers everywhere making it borderline impossible to dodge the bullets. To help get your mind on the future rather that the forgettable round at hand, the new dual-position players are available for selection, so let’s all just look forward to a change in fortune next week!

Fantasy Pig

Max Gawn The Dees big man went into the round with high expectations and didn’t let anybody down. After being named second in Calvin’s Captains, the pressure was on and the response was huge, pumping out a round-high 131. He proved to be a round saver for the four per cent of coaches who made him captain and most importantly he gave hope in a time where the average life expectancy of phones was dropping at a rapid rate.

Honourable mention: Brodie Grundy once again showed his class, looking after the large number of coaches who locked the Pig in as skipper. His 113 gives him a season average of 105 with a nice run of match-ups on the horizon … fingers crossed. It turns out paying up for the big two rucks at the start of the year was the way to go as their consistency is shaming a large number of the ‘reliable’ midfielders they have left in their wake.

Rage Trades

Disclaimer: I in no way endorse the trading of these legends unless an extended break is on the cards. Talking through their games on the weekend is the first step to recovery.

Bailey Smith … what an absolute disaster. The second-year Dog has been playing like an absolute champion this year but no sooner than his coaches put their feet up to watch him go about his business, his night was over after copping a nasty knock to the head and failing his concussion test … on a score of one. Keep an eye on his availability because a hold would be ideal.

Honourable mention: In unsurprising fashion, young champion Matt Rowell wanted to play on despite a nasty dislocated shoulder but he was ruled out by the medical staff in a complete show of disrespect to us Fantasy coaches. Not selecting the star Sun has been an awful call by those who left him out at the start of the year but this week they will make up some ground given his injury occurred on zero.

Piglet

In a week of need when the Fantasy world was crumbling around him, Curtis Taylor ensured he will be a favourite of his coaches for life after stepping up in a big way, kicking two goals and scoring 74 in a well-rounded performance including five marks and three tackles. He has been one of the best cash cows of the year and his current form suggests there is still plenty of fattening to come.

The top five

  • Max Gawn: 131
  • Josh Kelly: 116
  • Nick Haynes: 115
  • Brodie Grundy: 113
  • Dylan Shiel: 112

Trade Targets

  • Lachie Whitfield
  • Tim English
  • Jake Lloyd
  • Nick Haynes
  • Andrew Brayshaw

New dual-position players

The first lot of dual-position additions took place at the end of round five. 28 players have been awarded DPP which could prove handy for future Fantasy Classic trades and may add some extra value to your Fantasy Draft selections. The second and final lot of DPP additions will occur at the conclusion of round 11.

OK legends, that week tested even the toughest butter mouses, but hang in there. Although we are against each other, we are in it together! At this stage I will be waiting on the fitness news regarding Smith and Rowell before getting my teeth stuck into some new DPPs.
