He later explained his actions and showed his cracked iPhone screen in a video posted to Twitter.

Naitanui had the last laugh with his Eagles comfortably beating the Crows on Saturday and he showed there was no love lost after the match by giving O'Brien a brand new phone (courtesy of Telstra).

"Everyone expected me to have a go at the big fella. They sent me up a phone from Sydney, so I gave the big fella a brand new one," Naitanui told ABC radio.

"It's a better phone than I've got. He's a good fella, he was over the moon.

"I knew it came from a motivational side, not from any malice, so it was good fun … but if someone talks smack at you, you want to take it out on them."

It was an intriguing battle between the two ruckmen with Naitanui comfortably winning the hitouts and winning five clearances, but O'Brien was better around the ground with 19 touches and nine marks.

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks was full of praise for Naitanui after the game.

"I thought (O'Brien] played really well today against a really accomplished ruckman in Nic Nat and it was a great battle," Nicks said of the duel.

"I think first bounce 'ROB' said 'he was staring him down and it was on' but we know Nic Nat is a competitor and he showed that on the field. There was a fair bit of passion in the way he played and our guys tried to stand up for themselves.

"But I loved the end of the game. What an amazing human being. To be able to come down at the end of all that competitive work and give him a phone. I thought that was outstanding."
