COLLINGWOOD star Jordan De Goey will have finger surgery after playing through injury in his five-goal effort against Geelong on Thursday

The important Pies forward injured his finger in the Pies' 22-point win over the Cats but played out the game with the issue, including booting three final-quarter goals to seal his side’s win.

However De Goey will have surgery this weekend in Perth to repair the flexor tendon in his right middle finger.

Often surgery of that nature can lead to stints of up to two months on the sidelines.

Pies football manager Geoff Walsh said the club would put a timeline on his stint out of the game following the operation.

"Jordan has torn the flexor tendon in his right middle finger and it was determined this morning that surgery will be required to repair the damage," Walsh said.

"Jordan will have surgery over the weekend and will remain with the team while he recovers. We will have a better idea of an expected return date following his surgery."

The Optus Stadium clash with Geelong was De Goey's first game back in the Pies' side after he was charged by Victoria Police for indecent assault relating to an incident in 2015.

He missed the Pies' win over Hawthorn in round seven due to the COVID-19 restrictions that came from the police requirements.

The fallout from the game continued on Friday evening, with Collingwood revealing it had suspended the memberships of two fans for what the club termed "offensive comments" posted on social media. It did not identify the nature of the offending posts.

"The posts were not acceptable and we have an obligation to call them out," Collingwood chief executive Mark Anderson said.

"Tolerance, the celebration of difference and respect are qualities important to what we are striving for at Collingwood but none of these grant anyone the right to insult and demean others. We expect better of everyone involved with the club."

The two fans must complete 'respect and responsibility' education before Collingwood would consider reinstating their memberships, the club said. They must also acknowledge the "hurt and wrongdoing" their comments caused, and apologise.

BUCKLEY Five-star forward 'a frustrated midfielder'

De Goey's finger injury is another blow for the Pies, who have had a turbulent season with vice-captain Steele Sidebottom still to serve one more game's suspension for his COVID-19 breaches.

De Goey is out of contract at the end of the season and the 24-year-old recently told AFL.com.au he was "definitely" keen to remain at Collingwood beyond 2020.
