HAWTHORN captain Ben Stratton was non-committal on Thursday about his playing future beyond this season ahead of his 200th game on Saturday.

The triple premiership player was voted in as skipper for last season and has continued in the role this year.

THE RUN HOME Will Pies miss the eight, who sneaks in?

Stratton's proven one of the Hawks' most versatile and valuable defenders since they plucked him from WAFL club East Perth as a 20-year-old in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft.

"I suppose (you get) a little bit of time to reflect in the hubs. I'm super proud of myself, but you don't do it by yourself – getting to 200 games and 10-plus years," he said of his milestone match against Port Adelaide.

"It's a nice achievement I'll look back on at the end of my career."

Stratton said he had enjoyed sharing his football journey with his family and "repaying them for all the hard work they did early days".

"Watching them enjoy my success just as much as me (is a highlight), and probably the latter half of my career it's probably more the leadership path and enjoying that side of things," he said.

Hawthorn looks set to miss out on a finals berth for the third time in four seasons and both president Jeff Kennett and chief executive Justin Reeves have called for the introduction of more young players.

THE LADDER Where is your team sitting?

Last year's first-round draftee, Will Day, has proven the shining light of that group this year, but Stratton hoped the Hawks could unearth a couple more of those types before the season was out.

Day, who Stratton likened to Collingwood defender Jeremy Howe for the way he reads the play, signed a two-year contract extension this week to remain at the club until 2023.

However, it's unclear what the future holds for 31-year-old Stratton, especially with Hawthorn likely to undergo somewhat of a youth movement from 2021.

"No, not really," he said when asked about whether discussions had started about a new contract.

"We've got six games left, (so I'll) put my heart and soul into that and see what happens after that."
