BEN King has knocked back interest from Melbourne clubs and re-signed with Gold Coast for a further two years.

He will be with the Suns until at least the end of 2024.

Despite speculation King might go elsewhere, his signature was no surprise to coach Stuart Dew, who said his tall forward was never going to Gold Coast to "kill time".

Dew told AFL.com.au he understood why drafted teenagers would prefer to stay in their home state, but he never got that sense from King.

"Some people can move beyond that really quickly, and I remember a chat we had with Ben on the morning of the draft," Dew said.

"I've been thinking about it for the last year or so and there was never really any doubt to commit to the Suns," he said.

"I've been very lucky from the start in that I feel very well supported by the club and have a great group of mates up on the Gold Coast.

"The aim is to play finals and has been for the last couple of years … I think it's definitely within reach.

"I love the club and I'm really confident in the direction the club's heading."

The 21-year-old was believed to have attracted interest from St Kilda and Essendon among others.

He has settled in well over his three years, forming firm friendships with Matt Rowell, Noah Anderson and Jack Lukosius – all teammates he has lived with.
