SOUTHERN Saints have received a huge boost for Sunday’s important rebel VFLW clash with Williamstown with dangerous key forward Caitlin Greiser to play her first game of the season at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

Greiser, 23, who won the AFLW leading goalkicker in 2020 and St Kilda’s equivalent in 2020 and 2021 has a thumping kick, with the goals being in reach from anywhere inside 50 and even sometimes beyond, meaning she will create a big headache for the Seagulls’ defence as the Saints bid to consolidate fourth spot on the ladder.

Williamstown will again be without its best player in Aimee Whelan in a major blow to its hopes of beating the Saints for the first time in its short history.

Darebin has regained captain Steph Simpson to face Collingwood in a match that will lock up the top six with four rounds remaining if the Falcons can win, but both teams will have to overcome the disappointment of a major injury.

Falcon Rachel Hibbert and Magpie Danica Pederson both suffered serious knee injuries in their team’s losses last week and have been ruled out for the season.

Geelong regained ruck Rene Caris to face Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium, with the Borough being without best-and-fairest winner Claire Dyett (concussion), while Tegan Cunningham returns for Hawthorn but comeback hero Kara Henderson has been forced out after playing her first VFLW game in 973 days last week.

Essendon has rested VFLW games record holder Mia-Rae Clifford and Nicole Julian for its trip to face bottom team Western Bulldogs.

Clubs across the competition have also handed debuts to some of the most talented young players in this year’s NAB League Girls competition as they start to ramp up their preparations for the NAB AFLW Women’s Draft and a likely early start to next season.

Carlton will unveil Northern Knights pair Rylie Wilcox and Brooke Plummer, Williamstown has selected Western Jets premiership player Camryn Tyrell, Hawthorn has picked Eastern Ranges’ Mia Busch to join Bridget Deed and Izzy Khoury and the Casey Demons will have a look at Gippsland Power stars Indiana Makai and Yasmin Duursma, the youngster sister of Port Adelaide’s Xavier.
