GOLD Coast full-forward Chris Burgess has surged to the lead in the Frosty Miller Medal race after his seven-goal haul led the Suns to an impressive upset win over Collingwood in their Smithy’s VFL clash at AIA Centre last Saturday.
Burgess’ second bag of the season, after he kicked six in a losing cause against Sandringham in Round 4, took him to 27 majors from nine matches and lifted him above Box Hill Hawks spearhead Fergus Greene, who moved into outright second on 26 with three goals against North Melbourne as fellow previous co-leader Ben Crocker sat it out with Carlton’s bye.
Williamstown’s Teia Miles played his 100th VFL match in his team’s loss to Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium, with the Borough returning the favour the Seagulls dished out on Eli Templeton’s milestone match in the corresponding Johnson-Callahan Cup fixture last year, while Casey Demon Sam Weideman and Brisbane Lion Wylie Buzza each snagged their 100th State league goals in their victories over Sydney and Northern Bullants respectively.
The Bullants’ loss at Moreton Bay’s Red Rooster Park was their 550th away defeat in VFA/VFL football in game No.925, while Geelong played its 300th away match in Friday’s loss to Footscray at Victoria University Whitten Oval and the Demons reached 100 neutral venues matches against the Swans at the MCG.
