Williamstown will put its late rush towards a maiden rebel VFLW finals appearance on the line when it attempts to repeat its monumental upset of Carlton at DSV Stadium on Sunday.

The Blues were on top of the ladder when they suffered a crushing 35-point loss to the then 11th-placed Seagulls in Round 5, and their fortunes have closed significantly since then, with Carlton’s after-the-siren loss to Box Hill Hawks last week dropping it to sixth and Williamstown’s defeat of Port Melbourne lifting it to ninth, one win and percentage behind.

The Seagulls have recalled Brittney Gray and Camryn Tyrrell but lose Phoebe Chisholm to concussion, while the Blues, who are also seeking their first VFLW finals appearance have rested five AFLW-listed players in Mia Austin, Jess Good, Imogen Milford, Keeley Skepper and Chloe Wrigley.

Casey Demons have lost star midfielder Emma Horne with an ankle injury for their must-win clash with Southern Saints at RSEA Park on Saturday.

The Demons were spanked by the Saints little over a month ago as they slumped down the ladder, but back-to-back wins have them back on the edge of the six and they will step up their push with Mel Hogg, Caitlin Conroy, Steph Rummel, Ella Dempster and India Makai all returning to the team.

The second-placed Saints have managed Deanna Jolliffe, with Bec Neaves coming back in to replace her.

Ladder-leader Geelong has regained goal kickers Olivia Cicolini and Poppy Schaap, while Gabbi Featherston will play just her second game of the year, when the Cats take on Port Melbourne at Deakin University. Mel Bragg, Liv Fuller, Renee Garing and Abbey McDonald have all been rested, while Cheryl de Groot is unwell.

The Borough have lost five key players for the trip south, including tackling machine Saraid Taylor, who picked up an AFLW contract with Melbourne during the week, while Rohenna Young medallist Fed Frew is ill, Olivia Barton has an ankle injury, Kaitlyn O’Keefe a knee problem and Beth Wilson is in concussion protocols.

Tasmanian Georgia Alomes, who played one game for North Melbourne last year, makes her debut for Port Melbourne, with Keely Byrne and Maddi Shaw back in the team.

Mikayla Barnes has recovered concussion to play her first game of the year for the Western Bulldogs when they take on Collingwood at ETU Stadium.

Barnes has played two games for Oak Park in the Essendon league to prove her fitness to be the Bulldogs’ only change in place of the ill Trinity Skenderis.

The Magpies regain Katie Lee, Nicola Weston and Olivia Storer among five changes, with ex-Bulldogs captain Riley Christgoergl out with a chest injury and Tricia Cowan concussed.

Darebin has made six changes to face Essendon on Saturday, with Emma Mackay the key inclusion and West Brunswick’s Stefania Velona to make her VFLW debut at 28, while the Bombers made five changes, with former Bulldogs ruck Jaimee-Lee Morrow and Moonee Valley’s Sophie Ure on debut.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.
