Ikon Park

Ikon Park, Victoria

Ikon Park is located at Princes Park in the Inner Melbourne suburb of Carlton North and is the home base for the Carlton Football Club.  First used in 1897 by the Carlton Football Club during the inaugural AFL/VFL, Carlton went on to win 673 of its 962 VFL/AFL games at the venue.

In 2005, the venue was retired from use for AFL home and away games with the final farewell AFL game between Carlton and Melbourne was played on Saturday 21 May 2005.  Then on 7 June 2006 it was announced the venue (known then as Visy Park) would receive a A$15.7m redevelopment to provide the Carlton Football Club with elite training and administration facilities.

The inaugural match of the AFLW competition was held at the ground in February 2017 which attracted a capacity crowd of 24,500.  At quarter-time a lockout was imposed to avoid overcrowding, with those still lining up warned by officials they were "very unlikely to get in". The venue also hosted the 2018 AFL Women's Grand Final.

The success of the AFL Women's competition resulted in both state and federal governments allocating funding towards enhancement of the stadium's facilities, to enable it to become the home of women's football in Victoria.
