Drafted with pick No.10 by Essendon way back in 2009, Melksham spent six years at the Bombers before moving to Melbourne ahead of the 2016 season, which he and 33 of his Essendon teammates sat out due to a anti-doping suspension.
He has played 254 games at the top level, kicking 229 goals.
"I am so appreciative of everyone who has been involved in my journey," Melksham said.
"I'd like to thank Melbourne for allowing me to come into the club each day and be unconditionally myself.
"To the fans, thank you for your unwavering support through the highs and lows. This club wouldn't be where it is without you.
"I can’t wait to see what we can achieve over the next month."
Melksham played 114 games and kicked 57 goals over his six seasons at Essendon, and added another 140 matches and 172 goals with the Demons.
