FREMANTLE will be able to request to use 'Wharfie Time' at next week's Grand Final, with the AFL to make a call on the move early in the week.

The Dockers progressed to just the second Grand Final in their history with their come-from-behind win over Sydney on Friday night and will face the winner of Saturday night's preliminary final between Hawthorn and Brisbane in next week's flag decider.

The club has on occasion used the in-stadium activation at its Optus Stadium games in recent years, with 'Wharfie Time' on the big screens and the intro to AC/DC's song 'Hells Bells' blaring through the speakers to ignite a reaction from the crowd usually in a tight game.

They most recently used it at the end of the semi-final win over Geelong in the final minutes when they were clearly going to win and progress to the preliminary final.

Under the AFL's processes for the Grand Final, the League will write to both competing clubs as early on Sunday to submit their requests for the clash.

In this submission the Dockers will be able to list 'Wharfie Time' as a request, with the League to decide early in the week whether it approves it for the premiership decider should the Dockers want to be able to press the button.

The Dockers have sparingly used 'Wharfie Time' since it was introduced but it has become a fan favourite initiative, with Fremantle shedding few details on who makes the call on when to press purple in tight games and who has the final decision.

The AFL will decide whether or not they are allowed to activate it given the finals games come under AFL jurisdiction rather than regular club-led home games.

Last year saw goal songs used for the Grand Final, seeing 'Country Roads' (Take Me Home) by John Denver, 'Hey Baby' by DJ Otzi and 'Hey Jude' by The Beatles blaring across the MCG in Brisbane's run of goals.
