JORDON Butts' move from Adelaide to the Western Bulldogs as an unrestricted free agent has been confirmed, according to AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey.

Butts, 26, joins the Bulldogs on a five-year deal after playing 94 games over eight seasons at the Crows.

The Crows will receive band three compensation in return, giving them an extra pick in the second round (currently pick 33).

Luke Beveridge has been wanting a key defender for some time and is now set to have another one to play alongside James O’Donnell and Buku Khamis - who recently signed a five-year extension - ahead of an important 2027 campaign.

Adelaide's hopes of getting a band two compensation pick – at the end of the first round – were hit with a big blow after the compensation selections given to clubs on Friday.

Toby Greene and Lachie Neale both triggered band three compensation for their moves, to Geelong and Collingwood respectively.

The Giants and Lions had been hoping to land a band two pick at the end of the first round for losing their champion players, but the age of the two diluted the compensation under the AFL's formula.

Sydney also got band three compensation for losing Joel Amartey to Carlton.
