CARLTON veteran Zac Williams has announced his retirement from the AFL via social media on Sunday, declaring "Well, after 14 years it's all said and done."

Williams was restricted to just nine matches this year for a career total of 183 across 14 seasons at the Blues and Greater Western Sydney.

Taken by the Giants with pick 54 in the 20213 rookie draft, Williams made an immediate impact, playing 11 senior games that year and 113 before leaving GWS at the end of 2020.

A New South Wales native, he decided to turn down a three-year offer from the Giants, preferring to sign a six-year contract with Carlton valued around $900,000 per year.

The running defender's arrival at Princes Park was highly anticipated, and while Williams impressed when he took the field, his first two seasons in navy blue were hampered by injury.
