ADELAIDE'S chairman has backed Matthew Nicks to coach the Crows next season, regardless of the result of Saturday night's elimination final against the Western Bulldogs.

Reports on both Channels 7 and 9 on Monday night suggested Nicks, who is contracted until the end of 2027, is under pressure to hold onto his job beyond this year.

On Tuesday, Crows chairman John Olsen pushed back on the reports and backed Nicks to lead the club next season.

"We are in a highly scrutinised industry and unfortunately rumour and innuendo are common, especially at this time of year," Olsen told The Advertiser.

"Matthew is a great coach who has created a really high-performing environment, which is full of positivity and self-belief, and we now have a big opportunity in front of us.

"He has a year to run on his contract and we expect him to be coaching our team next year."

Nicks will address the media on Wednesday in his weekly pre-match press conference.

The former Sydney player, Nicks has been at the helm of the Crows since the start of 2020 but is yet to win a final in his seven seasons in the role.

The Crows were minor premiers last year, but failed to win a quarter in their two finals games, losing both at home at Adelaide Oval.

He has an overall record of 70-1-83 from 154 games, a win rate of 46 per cent.

Since the start of last season, his side has won 33 games and lost just 15, including those two finals last year.

He signed a one-year contract extension at the end of last year.
