THEY'VE been arguably the most consistent players this year, and once again, Jasmine Garner and Monique Conti lead the way in womens.afl's Team of the Week for round nine.

Some unsung heroes join the stars this week, including Chelsea Biddell, Sarah Wright, Sarah Hartwig and Kalinda Howarth.

The team is selected to mirror the All-Australian side: five defenders, six midfielders (including a ruck), five forwards and five interchange players.

Like the All-Australian team, it has players selected in general categories, rather than in traditional positions. The 16-a-side set-up often means teams play with varying configurations, making set selections (e.g wings and flanks) difficult.

DEFENDERS

Chelsea Biddell (Adelaide), Nat Grider (Brisbane), Vivien Saad (Gold Coast), Belinda Smith (West Coast), Sarah Wright (North Melbourne)

Biddell (eight disposals at 100 per cent, five intercepts) was enormous at crucial moments, Saad (13 and seven) was a steady presence behind the ball and Wright (10 and 12) ate up every loose ball that came her way.

Smith (23, nine intercepts) provided plenty of run for the Eagles, as did Grider (19 and 10) for the Lions.

MIDFIELDERS

Gabby Seymour (Richmond, ruck), Ally Anderson (Brisbane), Monique Conti (Richmond), Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne), Hayley Miller (Fremantle), Emma Swanson (West Coast)

Seymour (27 hitouts, 16 disposals, three clearances) produced another well-rounded performance as an undersized ruck.

Garner (27 touches, five clearances, one goal) and Conti (24, four and three) are written into Team of the Week in permanent marker at this point of the season, and Anderson (31 and 10 clearances) produced another stellar performance.

Swanson (28 and seven clearances) was the dominant midfielder in her game and Miller (27 and eight) led the way for Fremantle.

FORWARDS

Kate Hore (Melbourne), Kalinda Howarth (Gold Coast), Danielle Ponter (Adelaide), Tahlia Randall (North Melbourne), Jesse Wardlaw (Brisbane)

Hore booted three goals against the Bombers and was a constant threat, Howarth's creativity was on show against Carlton with 18 disposals and a goal, and Ponter (14 and two goals) was a class above.

Key targets Randall (13, two goals and six marks) and Wardlaw (15, three and five) controlled the air in their sides' wins.

INTERCHANGE

Kiara Bowers (Fremantle), Hannah Ewings (Port Adelaide), Sarah Hartwig (Western Bulldogs), Karen Paxman (Melbourne), Georgie Prespakis (Geelong)

Bowers laid a lazy 20 tackles to go with her 19 disposals and eight clearances, while Ewings (17, nine clearances and one goal) showed why she's a star of the future.

It was another classy performance from Paxman (24, four clearances, six tackles), Prespakis (23, seven clearances, 515m gained) had another stellar performance and Hartwig (10, two goals) found her feet in attack.
