A KEY difference in the set-up of the AFLW and AFL finals is the reason behind Richmond's Punt Road home semi-final on Saturday against North Melbourne.

While the AFL delivers all finals in the men's competition, the women's structure is slightly different. Clubs deliver finals across the opening three weeks of the finals series - for example, this weekend’s semi-finals - and the AFL only delivers the Grand Final.

As revealed by Sarah Black on womens.afl's The W Show, this structure provides clubs who have earned the home ground advantage with more control of venue choice and, in turn, has led Richmond to stick to its decision to host at Punt Road Oval, despite a limited attendance capacity at the venue.

Punt Road's capacity is 2800 spectators, and Saturday's final sold out within 13 minutes of general sale.

When asked if she would prefer the game be moved to a larger venue, Collingwood co-captain Brianna Davey answered: "Short answer, yes I do".

"You can understand why a team would want that sort of home ground advantage and if they've earned the right to have it you can understand why they want it," Davey explained.

"However, we sort of have the responsibility I think as well as a league and as players to try and grow the game and you know, 2000 people I don't think quite cuts it in a final. So for me I would be wanting to move it, yeah."

Kangaroos coach Darren Crocker echoed Davey's sentiment in a mid-week press conference.

BACK TO THE DRAW BOARD Lessons from last time the Tigers and Roos met

"I just feel if we're looking to grow a product like the AFLW that this is a time potentially to be able to open it up and, yeah, play it at a bigger venue," he told reporters on Tuesday.

Richmond and North Melbourne played in a draw to a 3,147-strong, sold-out Arden Street crowd just two weeks ago.

The Tigers have won a third of their games at Punt Road to date, while the Kangaroos are currently undefeated at the venue from four starts, including two wins over Richmond.
