MELBOURNE and Adelaide's dominant seasons have been reflected in the AFLW All-Australian squad, with seven and six selections respectively in the squad of 40.

North Melbourne skipper Emma Kearney is on track to possibly be selected for a record sixth All-Australian guernsey, but Karen Paxman's amazing run will stop at five, having been overlooked for the squad.

Two Irishwomen – Brisbane's Orla O'Dwyer and GWS Giant Cora Staunton – have also been selected for the squad, and are able to be chosen for the All-Australian team. If they make the final team, they'll mirror the achievements of countryman Jim Stynes, who was picked in the men's team in 1991 and 1993.

Staunton is the only Giant in the squad, with Alyce Parker having been overlooked, while Blues Maddy Prespakis and Gab Pound are also notable omissions.

Gold Coast spearhead Tara Bohanna caps off a stunning debut season, having been overlooked by all eight Victorian clubs in last year's NAB AFLW Draft before earning her opportunity as a Gold Coast injury replacement player.

The rapid improvement of small Dees defender Shelley Heath and Tigers key back Bec Miller has also been recognised.

Kiara Bowers and Mimi Hill have also made the squad on the back of their strong form, despite each only playing six of a possible 10 games.

Two rucks – Breann Moody and Lauren Pearce – have been selected, as well as three wingers (Eloise Jones, O'Dwyer and Ebony Antonio).

The final team of 21 – as well as the captain and vice-captain – will be announced at the W Awards on Tuesday night.
