DYNAMIC Brisbane forward Jess Wuetschner has had a lucky escape after she was struck by lightning.

The 27-year-old was working as a stevedore unloading ships at the docks in Brisbane in the early hours of Sunday morning when lightning struck a pole that she was holding.

Wuetschner was subsequently taken to hospital and was released later on Sunday, having suffered no physical injury. She has since returned to training. 

"Physically I am A-OK, but I'm still processing things mentally," Wuetschner said. 

"I am feeling a bit flat physically so will be resting my body. I was very lucky and I'm feeling very fortunate. 

"The doctors have given me the all clear to return to training, so I'm looking forward to getting back to footy, getting back to normal. 

"Thank you to everyone for their care and concern." 

Brisbane women's CEO Breeanna Brock said the club would continue to support Wuestchner in her recovery.

"We are just so thankful that she is all right," Brock said.

"A moment like this put things into perspective, that's for sure. 

"We'll continue to work with Jess and our team here at the club to make sure she has everything she needs to get back to normal." 

The Lions play a practice match against GWS this coming Sunday, before kicking off their AFLW season against Adelaide on February 8.
