AFLW clubs are well and truly back in the swing of pre-season, with two of their three weekly sessions now allowed to be full contact with the entire group of 30.

All teams around the country had been training to Victorian COVID-safe standards, but as the situation has improved in the state, the training restrictions have relaxed somewhat.

In promising signs for the continued improvement of the competition, a host of new players have dominated various 2km time trials and Yo-Yo tests (a variant on the beep test) across various clubs.

Collingwood ran three separate Yo-Yo tests for its three training groups.

All-Australian ruck Sharni Layton, new rookie Imogen Purcell (who comes from a rowing background) and tough defender Ebony O'Dea were the last standing in their respective groups.

Up north, Gold Coast's 2km time trial was dominated by two new faces, with draftee Lucy Single and former Saint Ali Drennan completing the run in 7:11 and 7:26 respectively.

The pair will add a new dimension to the young Suns midfield in 2021.

Molly McDonald and Hannah Priest rounded out the top three for the Saints, with Isabella Shannon and Olivia Vesely finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
