DRAFTEE midfielder Eliza McNamara has blown away her senior teammates to win Melbourne's 2km time trial.

The 18-year-old dominated proceedings at the famous Tan running track around Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens, a stone's throw away from the Demons' training headquarters.

While an exact final time wasn't available, the Sandringham Dragons graduate broke the seven-minute barrier, finishing ahead of Karen Paxman.

McNamara had previously set an unofficial NAB AFLW Draft Combine record of 6:59 (ahead of Nina Morrison's 7:14), but COVID-19 restrictions at the time meant it wasn't run under "Combine conditions".

Shutdown defender Nat Grider cut 15 seconds off her personal best to finish second, while draftee Ruby Svarc got an early pre-season win over Cathy, pipping her older sister to finish third.

Sophie Conway took out fifth spot, while second-year Belle Dawes cut an incredible 77 seconds off her previous best.
