  • Q2 11:20

Richmond need to get their skates on here in Cairns. The Suns lead by 18 points and are looking quite convincing at the minute.

  • Q2 10:30

GOAL SUNSNicholls marks just inside 50 and doesn't really want to kick it. It falls short where O'Meara marks. From 20 metres out O'Meara kicks the goal.

  • Q2 09:30

Riewoldt is playing as far up as the wing which is astounding given some long kicking with breeze would suggest he plays closer to the goal square.

  • Q2 08:30

Richmond need to work on their disposal with a lot fumbling and turnover caused by missing the target.

  • Q2 06:50

BEHIND TIGERSNewman with a long kick attempting to set up King. But the ball keeps bouncing and hits the post before King can get to it. King punches the post in frustration. That would hurt.

  • Q2 06:20

Brown marks it on the right side of the 50, 45 metres out. His kick is possessed by the breeze and dragged across the face of goal.

  • Q2 05:10

BEHIND SUNSPrestia with a long range shot at goal which surprisingly carries. It bounces in the square but to the right of the goal post.

  • Q2 04:30

Richmond applying some pressure to the Suns who still keep the bulk of the possession.

  • Q2 02:30

Jaeger O'Meara with a set shot from the boundary. He is aware of the breeze against him. Nonetheless it grabs his kick and pushes the Sherrin out of bounds on the full.

  • Q2 01:45

Aaron Edwards is playing in defence in an unusual move for him given his history as a forward with the West Coast Eagles and North Melbourne.

  • Q2 00:45

Lets see what Richmond do with this breeze. They are a top 8 team and lets see them show us what they are made of.

  • Q2 00:01

    The second quarter is underway.

  • Q1 29:30

The siren sounds for quarter time with the Suns holding a 12 point lead. The Tigers get their turn to use this more than handy breeze. We are set for a big second quarter at Cazalys Stadium.

  • Q1 29:00

The Tigers have done well in the first quarter to limit the damage. The Suns only lead by 12 points despite having most of the play.

  • Q1 28:00

BEHIND TIGERSShane Edwards with a flying shot at goal from the stoppage but it's offline and through for a behind.

  • Q1 27:30

Cotchin getting into the game late in the first quarter. He has 7 disposals

  • Q1 26:00

The Suns are in control of play in the first quarter with 17 entries inside their attacking 50. The Tigers have only had 8 entries.

  • Q1 24:20

BEHIND TIGERSRiewoldt kicks it off the ground and goes to ground but the ball rolls to the left. He looks at the umpire for a free kick but he is told to get on with it.

  • Q1 24:00

Bennell with a terrible kick to the forward line the goes straight down Cotchin's throat. He had options further and could have even had a stab himself.

  • Q1 22:00

Dustin Martin has enjoyed a good start to the match with 8 disposals. He leads the way for the boys from Tigerland.

  • Q1 20:20

GOAL SUNSDay marks just forward of the wing but has the added assistance of a 50 metre penalty. Added with the assistance of the mighty breeze Day has no problem slotting it through. Costly.

  • Q1 17:45

BEHIND SUNSO'Meara reads the hit out from the stoppage to perfection but his shot at goal misses to the left.

  • Q1 17:00

The Suns are leading but they could well be wasting a three to four goal breeze at the same time. The Tigers are doing a fine job absorbing the pressure.

  • Q1 14:00

GOAL SUNSShaw runs onto the edge of the 50 and kicks a beauty! That was a wonderful kick and the Suns are certainly using the breeze to their advantage.

  • Q1 11:00

GOAL TIGERSArnot gets around McKenzie before receiving the handball. Arnot doesn't crumble like a biscuit under pressure and finishes well to kick his first career goal.

  • Q1 08:30

BEHIND SUNSBrennan with an opportunity to pick up and kick the goal but he fumbles the footy. Cotchin dives and punches it through for a behind off the ground.

  • Q1 05:30

Richmond have made a slow start to the match but will be hoping to come home strong after last week's disappointing loss to North Melbourne.

  • Q1 03:20

GOAL SUNSBrown with a perfectly placed well weighted kick using the breeze to Bennell who juggles the mark despite the best efforts of two defenders. Bennell works the breeze to kick the goal.

  • Q1 01:45

BEHIND TIGERSWhite, who isn't starting as the substitute today, breaks away from the contest and spreads. He fires in the shot but misses to the left.

  • Q1 00:15

  • Q1 00:01

We are off and underway in Cairns.

  • Q1 00:00

No late changes with Shaun Grigg surprisingly named as substitute for the Tigers. The Suns have named Andrew Boston as the substitute.

  • Q1 00:00

Welcome Cazalys Stadium in Cairns for Richmond v Gold Coast. The Tigers are yet to beat the Suns and will be itching for the four points today to get their season back on track.

Jack Riewoldt soars for a mark against Gold Coast in Cairns

RICHMOND has defeated Gold Coast for the first time in three attempts, downing the Suns by nine points in a low-scoring affair at Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.

The Tigers led by seven points at three-quarter time and had the use of a significant breeze in the final term.

However, they didn't make their advantage count until Jack Riewoldt snapped a clever goal from the pocket to put them 16 points ahead.

Campbell Brown's goal cut the margin to 10 points with three minutes to play and Andrew Boston missed another set shot to tighten things up in the last minute, but the Tigers held on for a well-deserved victory, 6.17 (53) to 6.8 (44).

In truth, Richmond dominated open play from midway through the second quarter and it was only their inability to convert weight of possession into goals that prevented the game from being decided much earlier.

After losing to the Suns in north Queensland in the past two seasons, the Tigers kicked three quick goals just before half-time to snatch control of the game.

Daniel Jackson was excellent for the Tigers, kicking two goals and limiting the influence of Suns skipper Gary Ablett. Dustin Martin (31 possessions) was prolific in midfield, if a bit wasteful, and Ricky Petterd played a strong game off half-back.

"It's reflective of his season," Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said of Jackson's game

"You look at Gary Ablett, he had 26 touches and that's an average game for Gary. He's such a quality player.

"It was a really good contest between two really good players."

Gold Coast ruckman Tom Nicholls held his own against Tigers duo Ivan Maric and Tyrone Vickery, while Dion Prestia (27 possessions and a goal), Trent McKenzie and Matt Shaw were among the Suns' best in an even midfield effort.

Sam Day was also useful in the second half, helping to continue Rory Thompson's good work in keeping Jack Riewoldt goalless until the final term after Thompson was forced from the field on a stretcher in the third quarter after a collision with Tiger Matthew Arnot

Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna was optimistic Thompson could be available for next week's clash with Collingwood after he walked to the car en route to hospital for scans.

"He's had a super season. At his age and with his experience as a backman, he's stood up under some fierce weight of numbers," McKenna said of Thompson.

"With Travis Cloke next week, we'd be pretty keen on a very positive result from the scans, that’s for sure."
