Match  Feed

  • Q4 26:15

Full Time and abysmal reading if you're an Eagles fan as Geelong have defended their home patch with a stunning masterclass which has belted West Coast to the tune of 75 points. All the Cats tonight.

  • Q4 24:05

Even Geelong's shanks are producing shotsat-goal as Johnson's torpedo finds Selwood who hangs it up for Bartel to take in the right pocket; pressed too tightly, Bartel can't turn it home..

  • Q4 22:10

GOAL CATSAnd Geelong keep on keeping on as sheer weight of numbers sees the ball delivered to full forward where lo and behold, Selwood reels it in. 30m out, in front, shelling peas.

  • Q4 19:55

BEHIND EAGLESIt won't be a 277th to remember for Cox as he tries his best to kick a consolation for the West Coast but has his snap fading to the left of the posts. Eagles need a white towel.

  • Q4 18:30

BEHIND EAGLESThis shot won't be the one to break the drought as Yeo's long shot from 40 metres out is always offline and keeps it path to end up to the right of the sticks. Still can't dob one.

  • Q4 17:55

For any stats gurus, it's been 22 years,1992 to be exact, since the Eagles were kept goalless since Quarter Time. It was Footscray then but it may very well be Geelong tonight. They don't look close.

  • Q4 15:55

Relentless pressure and counter attack from the Cats as Schofield manages to chalk up a hardball get but is evidently run down by a lion-hearted Selwood on centre wing; no awareness whatsoever..

  • Q4 12:05

GOAL CATSThis is just how Geelong's night has been as Johnson's long up-and-under is roved brilliantly by Horlin-Smith who snaps home with no pressure and plenty of space from 15m out..

  • Q4 11:00

BEHIND EAGLESWest Coast notch up another behind as Lycett curls a stunning effort towards the middle from the right pocket which is touched late. Eagles can't buy a goal. Troubling times..

  • Q4 09:55

BEHIND CATSHunt almost has his first as he hits the deck, comes up with the football and snaps quickly from 30 metres out in front; unfortunately it takes a late unkind bounce and fades wide.

  • Q4 07:55

Play at the moment resembing a Thursday Night training session under lights with the crowd so quiet that you can hear the voices of all players. With Geelong in command, the fans are soaking it in..

  • Q4 07:25

GOAL CATS'Stevie J' finally salutes as he leads up hard to finish the prior lead-up work from Stokes from 52 out. Throwing the kitchen sink behind it, he does enough to bomb it home. Fitting.

  • Q4 05:35

To many matters worse for the Eagles, Naitanui hasn't returned since the break with an injury which sees him unable to put weight through his heel. Calf complaint? Perhaps an achilles? Not good..

  • Q4 02:05

BEHIND CATSGeelong players still breaking free everywhere inside-50 as Bartel is the last to be hit up inside the left pocket; hemmed in close to the boundary he shanks it across the face of goal.

  • Q3 27:05

3QT and Geelong look to have the four points in the kit bag as they've kept the Eagles goalless since the first quarter and smacked in nine-unanswered themselves. Geelong by plenty (67) at the last.

  • Q3 27:00

BEHIND CATSFresh from losing his footing, Horlin-Smith takes aim from deep inside the right pocket with a dribbling effort that Jason Akermanis would be proud of; it off-breaks to the right..

  • Q3 26:55

McIntosh provides the comical moment of the evening as he loses his feet when all he had to do was stream onto a loose ball 30 metres out to kick another for the Cats. Geelong are human after all.

  • Q3 23:05

GOAL CATSIt's a shellacking as Horlin-Smith shows terrific nimbleness at half-forward before hoofing a shot towards the middle from 30m; it drops late but it's over the line by then. Cats by 57.

  • Q3 22:10

BEHIND CATSGeelong showing mercy on their flogged opponents as Hawkins has time to play on but elects to take a set shot from 20m out, just to the right; should've played on as this is shanked.

  • Q3 19:15

GOAL CATSThat would be eight-in-a-row for the Cats as Bartel shifts it towards the goal-square where Stokes provides for Burbury who elects to play on to grubber it home from seven metres out..

  • Q3 18:50

BEHIND EAGLESDarling is left livid with his team-mates as none bother presenting which forces him into a long shot from beyond the arc; it packs distance but no accuracy. Cat's all over this.

  • Q3 16:20

GOAL CATSThat's the Johnson we know as an attempted shot-at-goal drops sharply in the goal-square where Hawkins takes the grab running back with it. From plumb in front, Hawkins has his third.

  • Q3 13:40

BEHIND CATSGeelong still can't hit the scoreboard as the normally reliable 'Stevie J' takes a grab inside the right pocket. Steering a low ball towards the middle, it drifts to the left..

  • Q3 12:25

Enright with a lob towards the goal square which is worked clear by Murdoch before Ellis releases Yeo before his handball to Sheed sees him crunched at centre halfforward; bruising defence..

  • Q3 11:50

BEHIND CATSNo-one's bothered the scoreboard attendant with a major as yet as a small war of attrition breaks out before Selwood marks 35m. Started to the right, it stays that way. Wide.

  • Q3 09:50

Huge clash of bodies as Selwood, not knowing any different, attacks the ball with ferocity and cops Wellingham's knee flush in his ribcage in an aerial battle. Selwood bravely shakes it off.

  • Q3 07:50

BEHIND CATSSeems that the behinds infliction is spreading as Bartel spears the ball inside where Murdoch marks on his chest. Presented with a 40 degree angle 40m out, this one's shanked wide.

  • Q3 06:35

BEHIND EAGLESDarling with a nice spinning move as he attacks the ball at pace inside the left forward pocket but releases a high shot which is always drifting to the left of the posts. Errant.

  • Q3 03:30

BEHIND EAGLESHill with the chance to have the Eagles off to a nice start as he reads the drop of the ball over Kennedy's head to mark 35m from home; with no angle to work with, he sends it wide.

  • Q3 00:01

We're away in the third term..

  • Q2 29:10

Half Time and whilst the first term may have been close, Geelong may have put this to bed after a 6.1 to 0.1 quarter against a battered looking Eagles. The Cats with a monstrous 38 lead at the break.

  • Q2 28:00

BEHIND EAGLESNaitanui tries to create some magic of his own as he dances into and out of traffic before hooking a shot across his body which drifts wide from 15 metres out. Siren's imminent.

  • Q2 25:05

GOAL CATSSix in a row and the Eagles look cooked as Hawkins dashes to complete his mark from 55 metres out. Loading up he sends it to the left and the breeze does the rest. Cats up by 39..

  • Q2 23:55

Naitanui almost hauls down a SCREAMER as he uses Mackie as a springboard before coming down empty handed from just outside the Eagles goalsquare; wouldn't have mattered as it was touched!

  • Q2 21:10

GOAL CATSMackie sparks this foray with a dash down the right wing before squaring to Selwood who goes to Johnson who goes to McIntosh. From 25m out, just to the right, he creeps it through.

  • Q2 19:05

BEHIND CATSGuthrie with the opportunity to make it five-in-a-row for the Cats but with a 20 degree angle to work with from 30 metres out, it snicks the left 'tall' post on the way through. Unlucky.

  • Q2 17:50

50 more possessions for the Cats is perhaps an indicative enough stat to help give you an impression of how much they're dominating proceedings; the Eagles DESPERATELY need the next to stay in touch.

  • Q2 14:45

GOAL CATSWhere's West Coast's run gone? It will matter little to the Eagles fans as Selwood is spotted up in space 46m from home and drills it home with a cracking right-foot drop-punt. Cats by 26.

  • Q2 12:45

Margin stands at 20 as Selwood returns to the field bandaged up after taking the force of Darling's body in a marking contest; it's his kick inside 50 which almost finds space before Glass intercepts.

  • Q2 09:40

GOAL CATSIt's the Bartel show as no Eagles defender is interested in going up as third man as Bartel bumps off his opponent to mark 10m out; around the mark he comes to snap it home.

  • Q2 07:05

GOAL CATSHawkins now turns provider as he marks strongly on the fringes of the ar before spearing a low ball to Bartel who marks on his chest 35m from home; never in doubt with his set shot..

  • Q2 06:55

West Coast deciding that it's best to chip around a resolute Cats defence but it's not proving to be a successful measure as Geelong have got quality and quantity to create contested possession.

  • Q2 03:55

With news that the Selwood's mother is in the house tonight, she'd be thoroughly enjoying this contest as both of her offspring are producing blinders for their respective sides thus far. Cats by 8.

  • Q2 00:50

GOAL CATSBOOM! A silky start for Geelong once again as Hawkins finds himself at the drop of the ball before his snap finds the middle from 35 metres out in front; that's his first for the evening.

  • Q2 00:01

    Underway in the second quarter..

  • Q1 29:05

Quarter Time and the Eagles have perhaps surprised many to take the fight up to the Cats to have themselves just two points down at the first break. Looks as though we have a nailbiter in store..

  • Q1 27:30

GOAL EAGLESDarling hushes 'The Cattery' as he gets to the front of the contest to clutch the grab just outside the arc. With his set shot taken from 45m, he curves it through beautifully..

  • Q1 24:25

BEHIND CATSBurbury. That's the name that's on Cats supporters lips as he bolts free of any opponent and into an open goal where he screws it wide. Completely unmissable but he managed it!!

  • Q1 21:40

GOAL EAGLESBrilliance from Hill as Yeo sends a scrambled kick to the left pocket before Hill wrong foots Enright to dribble home his best 'Daicos Special' from the left boundary 10m out..

  • Q1 19:30

GOAL CATSDuncan is looking to lay off an assist for all money as he runs long and hard to within 55m before his curling release heads to the left before fading back to the right to split the money.

  • Q1 17:50

Absorbing footy as the ball richochets between respective halfforward lines at present. Given the opening to the contest, you already have the feeling that this may develop into a shoot-out..

  • Q1 14:25

GOAL CATSJust when you think Geelong are struggling they conjure up a piece of magic as Stokes ducks under a tackle to keep the ball in play before linking with Varcoe who runs into an open goal.

  • Q1 12:55

GOAL EAGLESNice vision from West Coast as Cripps leads across the top of the arc to receive a wide delivery before turning on a dime to work it home off his right from 45m out. Impressive. Slick.

  • Q1 10:50

BEHIND CATSAfter an accurate start from both sides they're now trading minors as McIntosh finds space up front to mark with no pressure; his set shot though is across the face from 30m out.

  • Q1 09:10

BEHIND EAGLESHill can't make the Cats pay as he rises nicely to take down a mark at half-forward after an errant defensive clearance; his set is sent to the right side from 35 metres out..

  • Q1 06:40

GOAL CATSBurbury with terrific skill to keep the ball in play before he turns to find the out-stretched hands of Horlin-Smith. From just outside the goal-square, the hyphenated Cat pilots it home..

  • Q1 04:00

GOAL EAGLESCrisp response from West Coast as Kennedy's frame proves too much to budge for Enright before the former hauls it in. Stuttering from 35m out, it's steered through perfectly..

  • Q1 01:50

GOAL CATSIndecision from the Eagles but precision-plus from Selwood as the Geelong star intercepts the defensive clearance before working it home off his right from 35m out. Deadly.

  • Q1 01:20

BEHIND CATSCopybook football as the Cats work the ball from the centre bounce to Guthrie who turns and releases a punt into space which Hawkins gobbles up; from 31m out, it collects woodwork.

  • Q1 00:01

    Underway at Simonds Stadium..

  • Q1 00:00

Simonds Stadium is our venue for what should be an enthralling encounter between the undefeated Cats and Eagles. Will home ground be enough to get the Cats over the line or can the Eagles prevail?

Hamish McIntosh celebrates a goal against West Coast on Saturday night

GEELONG has sent an ominous warning to the rest of the competition, thrashing West Coast by 75 points at Simonds Stadium on Saturday night.

In a clash that featured two of the League's undefeated teams, Chris Scott's men were dominant after an even start, kicking the last 12 goals of the game.

The Eagles failed to score a major after Jack Darling slotted their fourth, 28 minutes into the first quarter.

Five talking points: Geelong v West Coast

The Cats won 16.11 (107) to 4.8 (32), improving their record to 4-0, with a huge clash against Hawthorn (the only other side to remain unbeaten) next up on Easter Monday.

"It was a good performance," Geelong coach Chris Scott said. "I didn't think we'd keep them to the score we did post-quarter-time.

"But obviously the opposition were decimated in terms of personnel, so it's still a bit early in the season to draw too many conclusions, I would've thought."

It was West Coast's lowest score against Geelong.

Rookie Eagles coach Adam Simpson was left to rue the recent spate of injuries and suspensions that has left him without Shannon Hurn, Darren Glass, Luke Shuey, Mark LeCras, Chris Masten and Matt Rosa, who was a late withdrawal after falling ill.

“It shows us where we're at a little bit, in terms of the first three games were really pleasing, but they made us pay tonight," Simpson said.

"I thought the second quarter was disappointing, but they gutsed it out.

"I know it didn't look like it on the scoreboard, but the endeavour was there."

As is the case almost every week, Cats skipper Joel Selwood inspired his side with a courageous performance.

During the first half, when the game was won, Selwood gathered 17 disposals and kicked two goals, including a brilliant 45m bomb from near the boundary in the second quarter.

"We thought he was outstanding tonight," Scott said. "If you're asking my opinion on who you should put in the votes, I don't need to say any more."

Mathew Stokes, George Horlin-Smith, Mitch Duncan, Cameron Guthrie and Corey Enright were among a host of other key contributors for Geelong, while Steve Johnson produced one of his more erratic performances, winning a stack of the ball but using it poorly.

Selwood, Horlin-Smith and rejuvenated key forward Tom Hawkins led the way on the scoreboard, finishing with three goals each.

Down back, Jared Rivers roamed far and wide in what was probably his best effort since joining the Cats from Melbourne in the lead-up to last season.

Geelong also won the much-anticipated battle of the big men, with Hamish McIntosh, Dawson Simpson and Mark Blicavs taking the honours over Nic Naitanui, Dean Cox and Scott Lycett.

Naitanui was subbed out during the third quarter after suffering soreness in his foot, while Cox, who broke the Eagles' games record by notching his 277th appearance, ended up with 16 possessions and 16 hit-outs.

Onballers Andrew Gaff and Matt Priddis did their best to keep West Coast in the contest, but they were overwhelmed by a ruthless opposition.

The Eagles are staring at another tough contest next Saturday night when they host Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium.

The Cats now have a nine-day break before facing their arch-rivals, the Hawks, in a game that truly deserves the blockbuster tag.
