Highlights: Adelaide v St Kilda The Crows and Saints clash in round 11
Josh Jenkins was instrumental early against the Saints

Josh Jenkins was instrumental early against the Saints

Adelaide's Josh Jenkins continued his breakout season with a seven-goal haul as the Crows thumped St Kilda by 88 points on Sunday.

St Kilda young guns Paddy McCartin and Hugh Goddard were both taken off on a stretcher at Adelaide Oval as the Crows banked a comprehensive 19.19 (133) to 6.9 (45) victory.

Full match coverage and stats

Goddard suffered an Achilles injury and McCartin was concussed.

Adelaide blitzed the Saints from the start, kicking six goals to one in the first term as midfielder Matt Crouch, a late replacement for veteran Scott Thompson (general soreness), dominated with 17 disposals for the quarter.

Jenkins then went on a scoring spree, kicking four goals in the second term as the hosts created a 51-point half-time lead before 40,896 fans.

Crows coach Don Pyke praised the side’s ability to spread the load.

"We’re built on a real even contribution from our group, we saw that again," Pyke said.

"You’ll get some players within that who’ll play well and stand out, but then the others are still contributing really strongly.

"We were good in the contest, I thought our ball movement at times was really sharp and our team defence."

St Kilda's woes were compounded when Goddard was stretchered off after rupturing his left Achilles when turning innocuously to chase Jenkins.

Five talking points: Adelaide v St Kilda

Coach Alan Richardson confirmed the youngster is likely to spend 12 months out of the game.

Next quarter, Goddard's teammate McCartin was also stretchered off with a head injury - he clashed heads, front-on, with teammate Jack Newnes, the impact forcing his head back into the face of Adelaide's Luke Brown. McCartin was taken to hospital following the incident.

The Crows remain the highest scoring team in the competition and have now kicked 100 or more points in seven of 10 games - and have twice scored 97.

Jenkins, with 34 goals for the season, feasted on frequent supply from a midfield led by Rory Sloane (32 disposals), Crouch, who ended with 36 touches, and Jarryd Lyons (28 possessions).

WATCH: Jenkins deadly in Crows' seventh win

Their ball-winning overwhelmed the Saints who never raised a yelp - Jack Steven (31 disposals) and David Armitage (25 possessions) battled gamely but had no support.

Richardson was understandably disappointed with his side’s showing.

"Tonight was a very poor performance, we played against a very, very good footy team," he said.

"We got beaten really badly inside and just demolished on the outside, we just weren’t in the fight, we weren’t in the game at all."

MEDICAL ROOM
Adelaide: Luke Brown suffered a blood nose in his head clash with Paddy McCartin, but returned to the field after being patched up. Scott Thompson missed the game through general soreness but is expected to play next week.

St Kilda: Hugh Goddard was the obvious casualty, innocuously injuring his left Achilles in the second term. The 19-year-old was spotted on the bench late in the game wearing a moon boot and, unfortunately, his season appears over. Paddy McCartin received two heavy head knocks in the third term and was taken to hospital with concussion. Nick Riewoldt is also in doubt for next week after jarring his left knee early in the game and soldiering on.

NEXT UP
The Saints will host Carlton next weekend, in what will prove another big test for this young side. An even bigger test awaits the Crows, who must fly to Perth to take on West Coast next Saturday night. It looms an absolute blockbuster and will offer a gauge of whether Adelaide can seriously contend in 2016.
