Highlights: Port Adelaide v West Coast The Power and Eagles clash in round nine

Josh Kennedy celebrates one of his seven goals

WEST Coast star Josh Kennedy kicked seven goals as the Eagles buried some road demons with an eight-point win over Port Adelaide on Saturday.

Kennedy, whose wife is expecting the couple's first child any day, arrived late in Adelaide to join his teammates before helping them sink Port 14.10 (94) to 13.8 (86).

Full match coverage and stats

The star forward lobbed in Adelaide late on Friday night and then dominated the twilight Saturday clash, kicking five and setting up another of the Eagles' initial nine goals.

West Coast's first away win in seven road trips was punctuated by Andrew Gaff being crudely knocked out by Port's Tom Jonas - and a report of Power star Robbie Gray.

Gaff went back with the flight of the ball and marked before a late-coming Jonas hit him with a right forearm to the back of the head in a third-term act certain to result in suspension.

Five talking points: Port Adelaide v West Coast

And Port's brilliant Gray was reported for tripping Mark LeCras in the final quarter.

Even if the MRP only fines him for the incident, it will be third low-level charge against Gray this season and will result in a one-match ban and rule him ineligible for the Brownlow Medal.

The incidents marred a dominant display from the Eagles, who led by 37 points late in the third quarter before holding off a fast-finishing Power.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson was tense in the game's dying stages and was simply thankful his side was in front when the final siren sounded.

"I was edgy, very edgy. I thought it was a pretty combative game," Simpson said.

"It felt like it was one from the first bounce and didn't stop until the siren went and we happened to be in front at the right time."

West Coast's sixth win of the season was created by its utter dominance in ruck: Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett (two goals) monstered Port's makeshift ruckman Jackson Trengove as the visitors recorded 70 hit-outs to the Power's 15.

Onballer Matt Priddis revelled in the supply, gathering 28 disposals, while defender Sharrod Wellingham (24 touches) was influential.

Port forward Aaron Young kicked four goals and Chad Wingard booted three as the Power slipped to a fifth loss this year.

Power coach Ken Hinkley said the Eagles deserved the four points in what was a brutal game.

"It was a pretty tough, solid game of football, there were a lot of combative injuries going on out there for the whole day," Hinkley said.

"It went down to the wire and they deserved the win, credit to West Coast."

MEDICAL ROOM
Port Adelaide: Hamish Hartlett received a heavy knock to his right shoulder and a badly corked thigh, Darcy Byrne-Jones rolled his ankle severely and Travis Boak was also crunched early. Boak's fine, Hartlett should be, but Byrne-Jones might take a little time to recover.

West Coast: Like the Power, the Eagles finished the game with plenty of sore bodies. Andrew Gaff was obviously heavily concussed and while each concussion is different, he'd likely miss a game. Mark Hutchings was smashed by Port's Robbie Gray in the final term and Scott Lycett was also hit hard. The fitness department is in for a busy week.

NEXT UP
In the Eagles' favour is an eight-day break to rest weary players before they take on Gold Coast at home next Sunday. Port faces another challenge to get wins on the board as it ventures to Alice Springs to take on Melbourne next Saturday.
