Highlights: Brisbane Lions v Fremantle The Lions and Dockers clash in round 12
Dayne Zorko was dominant on Saturday night

Dayne Zorko was dominant on Saturday night

THE BRISBANE Lions have snapped a nine-game losing streak and continued Fremantle's miserable run of late, storming to a 57-point victory at the Gabba on Saturday night.

The 18.13 (121) to 9.10 (64) defeat is the Dockers' third straight and will see them out of the top eight by the end of the round.

For the Lions, their second win of the season came on the back of complete midfield domination.

Full match coverage and stats

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon said his midfield was "obliterated".

The Lions looked rejuvenated after a week off and blew the game open with a six goals to two first quarter.

They never looked back.

Coach Chris Fagan was beaming after the win.

"It wasn't so much the fact we won it, as the manner we played tonight," he said.

"We attacked intelligently, we used the ball well and we defended well.

"The attitudes haven't dropped at any stage, but you know at some point in time you need to get some emotional nourishment for the group and they were able to get that tonight."

Dayne Zorko had 14 of his 30 disposals in a frantic first term, one that featured a spectacular mark on the Stanley St wing.

SHOWREEL: Little Lions feed on feeble Freo

He also kicked two goals and had 10 clearances in an explosive performance.

Captain Dayne Beams was a four-quarter driving force, finishing with 36 touches and showed his class in the greasy conditions, while Tom Rockliff (27) was excellent in his first match back from a dislocated shoulder.

Lewy Taylor played arguably his best game for the club.

The 2014 Rising Star winner started his night with a clever right-foot goal and a beautifully weighted pass for another to Beams.

He finished with four goals from 20 disposals that also included four assists.

Fremantle appeared tired and should relish the upcoming week off.

Lachie Neale (32), Brad Hill (24) and Nat Fyfe (18) tried hard but to little avail.

The Dockers gave a flicker of hope during a wet second quarter when they reduced a 36-point deficit to 20, but Taylor's goal on the half-time siren seemed to take the sting out of the contest.

"The whole performance is not what we want to stand for as a team and a club," Lyon said.

"I thought our midfield got obliterated. They couldn't get near them.

"We need to go to the break, we need to re-assess and we need to make some changes, because we can't just roll along."

Five talking points: Brisbane Lions v Fremantle

In the third quarter, the Lions completely demoralised their opponents, having 10 scoring shots before the Dockers went inside 50 for the first time.

They comfortably won all the key indicators – disposals (442-321), clearances (46-28), contested possessions (148-122) and inside 50 (65-43).

Fagan would be delighted with some of the crisp ball movement, including one passage during the second term that started with a Daniel Rich kick-in and finished with a Zorko goal from 50m without the ball hitting the grass.

The win completes a terrific week for the club, following the signature of former number two draft pick Josh Schache, who committed to the Lions for a further two years.

MEDICAL ROOM
Brisbane Lions: It was a clean bill of health for the Lions with vice-captain Tom Rockliff getting through strongly in his first game back from three weeks out with a dislocated shoulder

Fremantle: Youngster Brady Grey hobbled off during the first quarter with a hamstring injury and did not return. It meant the Dockers had just three players on the interchange bench for most of the match and used just 74 of their 90 rotations.

NEXT UP
The Lions won't be celebrating for too long, having one of the toughest tasks in the league next Saturday, playing Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Fremantle will take a much-needed break with the bye.
