Highlights: Port Adelaide v Fremantle The Power and Dockers clash in round two
AFL 2017 Round 02 - Port Adelaide v Fremantle

Charlie Dixon was pumped to kick an early goal against the Dockers

THE EYES of the footy world will be fixated on South Australia after Port Adelaide smashed Fremantle to set up a mouth-watering 20th anniversary Showdown with Adelaide.

With gun midfielder Robbie Gray pulling the strings in attack with six goals and 30 possessions, the Power made an emphatic statement by belting the woeful Dockers by 89 points at Adelaide Oval on Sunday night.

The Power's win shoots them to the top of the ladder, ahead of the second-placed Crows on percentage.

Gray, Ollie Wines and Brad Ebert were terrific for the Power as they showed last weekend's upset of Grand Finalists Sydney wasn't a fluke, easily beating the Dockers 22.13 (145) to 8.8 (56) in front of a crowd of 38,388.

Full match coverage and stats

The Power will get a true gauge of their progress when they face the Crows, so impressive in beating Greater Western Sydney and Hawthorn in the first two rounds, next Saturday night.

"I'm really pleased with our two performances so far this year, there's no doubt about that, but it's early in the season," Power coach Ken Hinkley said.

"All things get exaggerated at the start of the season.

"(I really liked) our willingness to do it all day, that was the key thing for us as a footy club.

"We're working really hard on that horrible word of consistency, we are trying to work really hard at.

"This game is so hard to play at such a high level all the time, but you have to turn up all the time and be prepared and do that.

"For us to do it over four quarters was really strong."

Five talking points: Port Adelaide v Fremantle

In contrast, the Dockers face a huge task to avoid losing their first three games of the season when they host reigning premiers, the Western Bulldogs, at Domain Stadium, on Saturday.

Gray – unusually quiet with just eight touches against the Swans last week – booted two majors in the first seven minutes before brilliantly evading three defenders and finding Aaron Young with a clever handball for another goal.

The Power's best and fairest for the past three years, Gray has struggled with a groin injury during the pre-season.

WATCH: Gray's dazzling half-dozen

Skill errors cost the Dockers dearly, turning the ball over regularly and succumbing to the Power's intense pressure around the ground.

"We're really disappointed, it's clearly at the lower end," Dockers coach Ross Lyon said.

"We came here with high expectations than what we delivered on.

"If you have high expectations and don't deliver, there's going to be disappointment.

"We felt like we knew Port really well, we knew the pressure was really strong, but in simple terms, when the game was there, we ripped the heart out of the team with our ball use, sent it back and turned it over.

"Our stoppage work was OK, but they were seeping out on us and it was like bees to the honeypot a bit.

"Port looked quicker than us and played with an intensity (that we didn't have)."

The Power regularly found holes in the Dockers' defence with Charlie Dixon, Gray and Young getting uncontested marks in the forward 50.

The home side kicked four goals to one in the second term to take a commanding 53-point lead into the main break.

They continued the onslaught in the second half to break a four-game losing streak at Adelaide Oval.

MEDICAL ROOM
Power young gun Sam Powell-Pepper had his knee evaluated at quarter-time, but he started the second quarter and played the rest of the game. Winger Jared Polec left the ground with a foot injury. Defender Jack Hombsch picked up a knock to his knee. The only positive for the Dockers in a forgettable night was the fact they didn't pick up any new injuries.

NEXT UP
The Power has set up a massive top-of-the-table clash with cross-town rival Adelaide in the Showdown at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, 7.10pm ACST. The Dockers have a huge challenge to grab their first win of the season whey they host reigning premiers, the Western Bulldogs, at Domain Stadium on Saturday, 5.40pm (AWST).
