MELBOURNE coach Mark Neeld has given a glimpse into the goings-on of Monday's lengthy board meeting, with the topic of discussion centering around the development of the club's younger players.

Speculation suggested Neeld was to be sacked at the meeting, which took place at the MCG, but the Melbourne board released details late in the day confirming Neeld would remain in the top job.

Dramatic Demon day as it happened

Neeld said the board asked him, director of sports performance Neil Craig, development manager Todd Viney and football manager Josh Mahoney to detail the current state of the club's list.

"It was a scheduled board meeting. Neil Craig, Todd Viney, Josh Mahoney and I went over [to the MCG] and presented snapshots, as we do all the time," Neeld told melbournefc.com.au.

"Yesterday (Monday) … we had a lot of questions about our player list and the development, and how they're progressing and how we are going to progress them further."

Why the Demons didn't sack Neeld

The Demons have copped some criticism for how some of their high draft picks have failed to develop, with Neeld saying there was a particular emphasis on the players who had played around 20 games.

"We sat around and presented a bit of information on that and there were a couple of other things [we went through]," he said.

"We were going through a number of our players – especially the ones who are somewhere between that 20-plus game mark.

"There was a bit of concentration on those and then the younger ones, because the majority of our list is there. That was pretty much what we spoke about at length yesterday."
