This Saturday night’s first ever QClash is a massive game for our Club.

Not only are we keen to get an early leg up on our new cross-town rivals the Gold Coast SUNS, but we’re in desperate need for a win to get our season back on track.

We’re still winless after our first five games, but feel as though we’re a much better side than our current ladder position suggests.

Even though our performance last week against the Tigers wasn’t one of our best, we were still in a winning position heading into the last quarter. We just have to find a way to close out games. Maybe it’s a confidence thing, but there’s no use getting close every week and not being able to get the four points.

That’s why this weekend is so important.

The SUNS are currently one spot above us on the ladder and we really want to show them who the number one team in Queensland really is.

I can guarantee that we won’t be taking them lightly. They had a pretty ordinary day against Essendon last week, but have proven to be a good young side that are capable of causing an upset - just ask Port Adelaide!

Even though both teams are sitting at the wrong end of the AFL ladder at the moment, it should be a huge event for all Queenslanders. Having two AFL teams in this State is great for the game’s growth, and I’m sure our rivalry will develop over the years into something pretty unique.

On a personal note, Saturday night will prove memorable on two fronts because it is also my 50th AFL game. It’s been a while coming, considering I’ve had a few injuries along the way, but I’m pretty happy to finally reach the milestone.

But to be honest, it will be the furthest thing from my mind this week. My focus will be on doing my part against the SUNS and hopefully getting to sing the team song in the rooms afterwards.
