FREMANTLE has recalled key players Luke McPharlin and Antoni Grover to face Geelong on Sunday, while exciting small forward Tim Ruffles has been named on an extended bench.

Speedster Clayton Hinkley has also been recalled, while defender Josh Head is the only omission at this point.

The Subiaco Oval clash will be Ruffles' debut if he makes the final side named on Friday afternoon, and he has recent form to justify his inclusion.

The 18-year-old, who arrived at Fremantle via pick No.68 at the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, is fresh from a five-goal performance for WAFL side Perth and was impressive the week before with two goals.

"Tim's had two games back in the WAFL for Perth playing in a small forward role and he's got good hands and reads the play well," football administration manager Brent Dawkins said.

"But we'll just have to wait until Friday to see if he makes the final team."

Ruffles was drafted as a small forward who can push into the midfield, and Dawkins said, at 67kg, the young New South Welshman had been working hard in the gym.

"All of these young guys that we've drafted came into the system after the first two months of the pre-season," Dawkins said.

"So he hasn't done a full pre-season, but it's a constant thing that he's working on, as with all of our young guys, and he'll continue to do so."

Grover (calf) and McPharlin (hip) both missed the trip to face Port Adelaide in round 11, but have recovered and will fill key positions.

"It's good to have both those guys back, they add experience with both having played a lot of AFL games," Dawkins said.

"So coming into our young group both of those guys are important to our side."

Clancee Pearce and Michael Walters, who both debuted against the Power, have held their spots with Pearce named on the extended bench and Walters in a forward pocket.

"All through the year we've played young guys in the side and all of them, without exception, have shown something and held their own," Dawkins said.

"That was the same over in Adelaide two weeks ago when Clancee Pearce and Michael Walters as a late inclusion both held their own in a fairly hostile environment."

Dawkins said small forward Hayden Ballantyne was around the mark as he recovers from a back injury, but the club had to be 100 per cent certain before it unveiled the Sandover Medallist.

"We don't want to take any risks with our up and coming players, so we won't rush him in," Dawkins said. "Hopefully we'll see him in the next week or two."
