Andrew Swallow has continued his surge up the leaderboard in the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year after registering the maximum ten votes against Adelaide.

A brilliant first quarter helped Swallow on his way to a career-high 39 possessions (28 of those contested) and a remarkable 18 clearances.

Brad Scott and Neil Craig were quick to applaud the efforts of Swallow by voting him the best player on the ground.

"He was absolutely fantastic… against some really good, quality inside midfielders from the opposition," Scott said after the game.

Sunday was the sixth time this season Swallow has been named among the best, and he now sits in equal eighth place with Sydney's Ryan O'Keefe and Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury in the race for the highly-regarded award.

Drew Petrie's efforts didn't go unnoticed either. The North Melbourne big man kicked four goals and pulled down eight marks to be named second-best afield.

Jack Ziebell, Todd Goldstein and Daniel Wells were also among the votes.

Ziebell laid an impressive 11 tackles to go with his 25 possessions in capping off a much-improved month of football, while Wells racked up 23 touches.

Goldstein moved up to third in the AFL for hit-outs with an amazing 48 taps, but was also damaging around the ground with 17 touches and seven tackles.
