All the teams for Round 5 in the Smithy’s VFL.

All roads should lead to Fenjiu Stadium where Sydney great Luke Parker will make his return from a broken arm in the Swans’ Smithy’s VFL clash with Box Hill Hawks on Sunday.

And the former Swans co-captain won’t be the only big drawcard, with Hawthorn star Chad Wingard named to make his comeback from his achilles injury in the same game.

Parker, 31, hasn’t run out anywhere but the AFL since the last of his 11 NEAFL games in 2012 on the lead-in to playing in Sydney’s premiership win over Hawthorn that season. He has racked up 283 AFL matches, three Bob Skilton Medals, an All-Australian guernsey and two AFLPA Robert Rose Most Courageous Player awards.

It will be his first hitout of the year after breaking his arm in Sydney’s AAMI Community Series win over GWS in February.

Wingard, meanwhile, who has played 218 AFL games for Port Adelaide and Hawthorn and was a dual All-Australian, John Cahill medallist dual leading goalkicker at the Power, has made a remarkable recovery from a ruptured achilles in Round 22 last year that was expected to wipe out his entire 2024 season.

He returns to the Box Hill line-up alongside AFL omissions Henry Hustwaite and Max Ramsden, while Ned Reeves is also back after missing last week’s powerful win over North Melbourne with concussion, but the Hawks have lost midfielder Cooper Stephens and ruckman Clay Tucker to injury.

The Swans also regain former GWS player Nick Shipley for his first game of the season as they look to bounce back from giving away two points in an error-riddled draw with reigning premier Gold Coast last week.

Collingwood will unveil its top draftee Harry DeMattia in Saturday’s Anzac weekend clash with Essendon at Victoria Park.

DeMattia broke his finger in the pre-season after being taken at pick 25 in last year’s draft, with Magpie fans champing at the bit to see him in action, which he will be alongside VFL star Lachie Sullivan, AFL omission Reef McInnes and the returning Jakob Ryan (hand).

The VFL’s most experienced current player, Tom Wilson, has been listed as managed alongside Harry Kennedy, Patrick Farrant and Connor MacDonald, but all four have been named as emergencies.

Essendon welcomes back the dangerous Matt Guelfi from a calf injury suffered in Round 1, while Elijah Tsatas has again been dropped and Bailey Scott forces his way back in.

Port Melbourne has copped another couple of injury blows, with in-form pair Fraser Rosman and Matt Signorello ruled out of its tough assignment against Gold Coast at ETU Stadium with hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

The Borough also loses Cody Henness to a one-match suspension, with former Swans VFL player Harry Maguire and ex-Bullant Cam Wild to make their club debuts and Jack Johnston also recalled.

The Suns have been bulked up by the returns of Lloyd Johnston from a hamstring and Jy Farrar from a thumb, with Alex Sexton and Bodhi Uwland dropped from the AFL team and Academy prospect Nick Francis also coming in.

Sam Day, Rory Atkins and Darcy Macpherson were promoted after being the Suns’ best three in last week’s draw, while Zac O’Brien suffered a minor knee injury in his second State league game for nine years.

Southport regains three stars for its Queensland Derby clash against Brisbane Lions at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday, none bigger than a refreshed champion midfielder Jacob Dawson after the first missed game of his VFL career.

Last year’s Lions captain Wylie Buzza will play against his old team after being unavailable for the Sharks’ back-to-back trips to Melbourne, while Jay Lockhart is back from a one-game suspension.

The Lions regain Liston medallist Jarryd Lyons for the clash along with Thursday night’s AFL substitute James Tunstill and experienced defender Tahj Abberley for his first game of the year, with Darcy Fort and Conor McKenna having played against Giants and Deven Robertson ruled out for a month with a shoulder injury.

St Kilda’s cavalry is on the way back, with three players returning from pre-season injuries in Sandringham’s clash with Northern Bullants at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval, including Carlton recruit Paddy Dow.

Dow hurt his knee in February, delaying his Saints debut, while defender Ben Paton tore his pectoral muscle in February and forward Matt Allison also did his knee at the same time to give the Saints the worst possible start to the year.

Their returns for the Zebras come alongside second-gamer Will Vesely and third-gamer Logan Young, with Dougal Howard and Angus Hastie called up to the AFL, Max Heath to miss with concussion and Olli Hotton rested.

The Bullants made six changes to the team that lost to Frankston, only one of them forced, as Alex Jacobs goes out with a hamstring injury in another blow to their depth.

They will have two debutants, including North Heidelberg’s Dane Whitnall, the son of former Carlton spearhead Lance, who breaks in alongside Maribyrnong Park’s Rook Barry, while Zac Hart and Jack Chubb will play their first games of the year and Kobe Brown his second.

Geelong has suffered a blow ahead of its trip to Carlton on Saturday, with key defender Bailey van de Heuvel to miss up to three months with a knee injury.

Van de Heuvel, who was also considered a mid-season draft smokey, was hurt early in last week’s stunning win over the Brisbane Lions in Queensland and scans confirmed the bad news, with tall forward Phoenix Foster (concussion) and forward Oli Wiltshire also out of the team.

But the Cats do regain star ruckman Toby Conway in his musical chairs role with Rhys Stanley, while Oisin Mullin is back and Jhye Clark and Shannon Neale will try to win their AFL spots back as former Blue Hamish Sinnott makes his Geelong debut against his old team.

The Blues regain draftee Billy Wilson and defender Dom Akuei, while AFL emergency Sam Durdin has also been named to play after being held over last week.

Luckless Frankston recruit Taj Campbell-Farrell will finally make his long-awaited Smithy’s VFL debut when the Dolphins attempt to climb into the top four against a rejuvenated Coburg at Kinetic Stadium tonight.

Campbell-Farrell, 19, captained the Dandenong Stingrays in 2022 and won the Coates Talent League’s Morrish Medal despite carrying a foot injury throughout most of the season.

He joined Williamstown last year after but couldn’t shake that injury and several others, failing to play a game for the Seagulls before deciding to return closer to home with the Dolphins this year.

He has been made to wait for his opportunity, but played well and kicked a goal last Saturday to help his home club Rye break a 22-match Mornington Peninsula league losing streak by beating Hastings, and Frankston coach Jackson Kornberg has finally given him the nod.

Campbell-Farrell is one of three changes to the Dolphins team that beat Northern Bullants last Friday night, with Joe Lloyd named for his season bow after a false start last week and Kyle Stainthorpe was recalled after one week out of the team.

Captain Trent Mynott is the key out after suffering a hamstring injury, while Ollie Moran and late inclusion Harrison Jones missed out.

The Lions smashed their own losing streak last week, ending a 23-game, 630-day wait to sing the song with their first victory over Collingwood in 12 years and they will head to the Peninsula brimming with confidence but without their best player so far this year, with Footscray recruit Hugo Bromell serving a one-match suspension for rough conduct from that win, with Max Kennedy returning to the team in his place.
