ADELAIDE defender Michael Doughty has backed captain Simon Goodwin to take his place in the side to play the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Goodwin, 32, rolled his ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Western Bulldogs and emerged from the rooms on crutches.

The four-time All-Australian sat out training on Wednesday night, but had a light session away from the main group earlier in the day.

"Simon will train Friday and I would think he’ll play this week," Doughty said.

The Crows have another injury concern ahead of the trip to Brisbane with impressive forward Taylor Walker also failing to train on Wednesday.

Walker, who starred against the Bulldogs with four goals, has calf soreness but the club is confident he’ll be fit to take on the Lions.

Doughty said the Adelaide midfield would have to step up and help Walker and other forwards to better the team’s 11-goal average this season.

"We haven’t got a set forward, so it has to be shared among the midfield and young blokes like Taylor who is getting better and better each week," he said.

"But we can’t expect him to kick goals every week. It’s got to be shared through the midfielders and blokes will have to pop up. We need an even spread."

Doughty, who started his career on the Crows' rookie list, will reach the 150-game milestone this weekend.

He enjoyed a brilliant 2008 and said his inclusion in the club’s leadership group this season had helped his development.

"It hasn’t been an easy road to 150 games – this is my 10th season – and I’m only now coming up to 150, so it’s something that I’ll look back on in a couple of years and be proud of," Doughty said.

"It took me a couple of years to adjust to the [the professionalism required at AFL level] and leadership is another area I’m diving into now, which is exciting for me."

Doughty will share his milestone with teammate Scott Thompson, who will play his 100th game for the club since switching from Melbourne.

Thompson, 26, knocked back an offer from Port Adelaide – the team he played for and supported as a kid – to join the Crows and said it was a decision he’ll never regret.

"It’s nice to reach 100 games with one club," Thompson said.

"I’ve been fortunate since I’ve been back in Adelaide. This is my fifth season, so to chalk up 100 club games not even halfway through my fifth season – I've been pretty lucky to go through without injuries."

Adelaide’s game plan and competitive nature has been questioned on the back of two disappointing losses.

But Doughty denied the players were feeling the heat.

"We’re pretty excited about the group we’ve got together," he said.

"We know what we’re trying to do and we’re going to keep persisting with it until the end of the year or things have to change.

"We’re very confident that, when we get the game plan right, we can compete with the top-four sides."
