Although slightly envious, North Melbourne legend Glenn Archer has given the new facility at Arden Street his tick of approval.

After 16 years at the club in facilities that can be described as humble at best, Archer returned today to inspect the $15 million construction, which is due for completion in November.

Accompanied by CEO Eugene Arocca, Archer said a dream has been realised.

“When I was playing we never got the opportunity to train in something like this. It’s hard to believe it has finally happened and I’m happy for the current crop of players at North,” Archer said.

“We saw plenty of sets of blueprints over the years, but to be honest I never thought it would actually happen. To stand there in the building as the finishing touches are put on it is just sensational, and it is a credit to Eugene and everyone who has managed to get it built.”

However the training facilities weren’t the only thing that impressed one of the club’s greatest ever players.

“The redevelopment will not only be great for the players and the club, but it will benefit the community as a whole,” he said. “To have a classroom in there where kids and adults can come and learn and take part in programs will add a new dimension to the footy club. To open its doors and share the history and culture of the North Melbourne Football Club to everyone in the area, no matter where they are from or what their background is, is just sensational.

“It will also be great for North supporters and members to be able to visit Arden Street and take in the history of the club, but in a state-of-the-art facility. There is a great feel in the old buildings so it will be a bit sad to see them go, but the history will be there for everyone to see and to be recognised in the new building.”
